Sorry, but the idea of moving Chris Williams back to LT doesnt thrill me. We need a bonifide LT. I dont care how we get one, either draft or FA, but they dont grow on trees Our QB depends on fixing that OLine and we wont have a good offense till its fixed.I do like Lance Louis at RG.

I don't understand how Williams looked pretty good his rookie year, stonewalled Jared Allen, got hurt and hasn't had a sniff since.

IF (big if) we draft LT in round 1, I would not address a backup guard spot in round 3.  There are other spots that are more critical or have no depth that we could use our 4 picks in the top 100:
  • CB - I like Jennings but he certainly could be upgrded plus he's a FA, plus Tillman is over 30, plus Bowman and Corey Graham are FAs too - too many plusses at CB
WR - potential at 1st or 2nd round or free agency - but we could have many openings for that position too
LB - who exactly is our 4th LB?  No depth.
S -   Conte and Major Wright are signed - Stelz is a FA - no depth
DE - who exactly is our 3rd DE?  Wooten was invisible, and the FA Davis was OK, but we need to not only find depth but be prepared to replace our aging DEs soon
TE - We have two that some think are block only TEs - I don't agree with that though

With Tice being named OC, I could very easily see us drafting Toon now.  Tice has close ties to the Wisconsin football program and probably knows more about Toon's pro's and con's than just about anyone else in the league.

The problem is that while Toon is a solid WR with decent size, he's not a #1.  He's basically a bigger Earl Bennett which gives us a 1a and a 2 but still not that guy with a blend of size and speed that can take over a game.  If we can get Toon with our 2nd round pick he's probably a fair value but no way do I go any higher than that for him.

If we could sign VJackson, our need for a 1st round WR would decrease, although we still need help there.

Given that Tice is our OC, I'd like to see this happen:

FA - Vincent Jackson, and the best available LT.  Yes these are both expensive positions to fill via FA, but they are critical and we need veterans who can step into those spots and perform at an NFL level immediately.

Draft

1st round - best available big CB, or rush DE; we will likely not be scoring a lot of points with a Tice offense so bolstering the defensive side with a great young player becomes priority

2nd round - best available big WR  (Toon?)

3rd round - we have two picks; package them both to trade back into the 2nd round and take the best available O-Lineman

4th round - LB

Remaining rounds - BPA

That gives us a good young defender, a legit LT, it puts a quality O-Lineman and a developmental LB in the pipeline and it gives us a WR corps of VJ as the 1, Toon as the 2 and Bennett working in the slot.

PLEASE not Ruskell.

I may not even watch the draft if that yokel is pulling the trigger.  My 5th grade nephew's coach could find better players than that clown.

You can't see the handwriting on the wall?  It's going to be Ruskell.  Who else is going to come here as GM and not have control?

If it is Ruskell, then Phillips should be fired next year along with everyone else at Halas Hall!!

I would maybe communicate to the outside world that Lovie and staff are on board next year to keep the players and potential FA etc calm. If I had the right GM in my office (the guy from GB) and he said that he couldn't work with Lovie and that he had the right coach (OC from GB) lined up I would let him clean house.

I expect though that a new GM coming in, having a somewhat stable coaching staff might be a good thing so he can concentrate on personnel and spend the year evaluating the staff and thinking about what needs to happen next year.

FA - Vincent Jackson, and the best available LT.

Unfortunately, recent Bears history shows that the Bears have had to constantly go the FA route to find a LT:  Andy Heck, Blake Brockermeyer, John Tait.   Last pro bowler the Bears drafted at that position was Jimbo Covert in 1983.

John Tait was good for a number of years.  I wouldnt mind having someone of his caliber again.
