Funny how nobody ever talks about Matt Stafford's fundamentals even though he throws sidearm more than any QB I've ever seen.

But I guess when you're tossing for 5,000 yards in a season everyone assumes your technique is rock solid.

I don't care what his **** fundamentals are.  He could jump in the air and throw the fuking ball underhand between his legs to Marshall if the end results are TD's and wins.

It doesn't have to be pretty or perfect.  It just has to work.

OMG he doesn't have the perfect throwing motion.  OMG he doesn't have the perfect footwork...  This and that...  Screw that.  Watch Peyton Manning and see how many wobblers he throws that are not perfect spirals.  It works that is all that matters.

If I'm Emery, the first thing I do after the new HC has moved into Halas Hall is I sit down with him and we watch that entire San Francisco MNF debacle from beginning to end.  Then when it's done I ask him point-blank what he's gonna do to make sure nothing like that EVER happens again.

Cutler's fundamentals `horrendous,' must change: Esiason

Tribune report
10:52 a.m. CST, January 4, 2013

Esiason said he had to relearn the fundaments when he was traded from the Bengals to the Jets in 1993.

I'm trying to remember all the success Esiason had as a Jet but I'm drawing a blank. Boomer....STFU!!!

Some tight spirals, some wobblers. Pay particular attention to the passes at the 0:59, 1:22, 1:44, 2:49, 4:34, 4:39, and 4:47 marks. Actually, skip that last one, if you want to avoid reliving past nightmares.

And remember - this is a highlights video.

Definitely agree on Peyton Manning's wobblers from that last game - but credit his receivers for staying so focused to haul those things in for TDs...

Even though they weren't nice tight spirals - they were thrown in spots where the defender had no chance at them either

It might be nice if Emery could ask that question BEFORE hiring our next HC.  ;)

Yeah I thought of that...  but I don't think Emery's gonna get 4+ hours with most of these candidates.  At least not in the first round.

That last game?  Hell those are career highlights.  He has thrown wobblers forever.

Yet he is never criticized for his lack of fundamentals of the perfect spiral pass.

I may have McCoy and Ariens pegged completely wrong but the feeling I get is with McCoy, we wouldn't have to do quite as much personnel work on the front end as we may have to do with Ariens.  It kind of seems like Ariens has carried the same philosophy with him wherever he's gone and if we already his kind of players in place then that's not a big deal but it doesn't seem like he may be quite as adapatable as McCoy has proven to be.

Either of those guys are obviously going to require much better players on the OL to get anything done, but how each of them would define our needs in terms of the TE, WR and possibly even RB positions might vary considerably.

Irregardless of who the new HC is, I think all current Bears players would be well advised to spend this offseason training like they've never trained before.

Emery cut his teeth on strength and conditioning and don't think for a moment that isn't a key piece in the new culture he's establishing.  I'm sure that just like the rest of us he noticed the ridiculous amount of injuries, the many one-on-one battles lost in the trenches and the inability for either the offense or the defense to finish games strong.  Camp Lovie is gone and I have a feeling that for the first time in a long time our players will be doing real work once the first training camp of the new regime opens for business.

It would also be good if Cutler, Marshall, Jeffery and some of the other WRs spent a LOT of time together these next few months playing throw-and-catch and just working on their general chemistry.  This has been standard operating procedure for guys like Manning, Brees and Brady for years.  I know the rules are pretty strict about what can and can't be done in that regard but the good teams find ways to skirt those restrictions.  I don't know if the new HC will require something like that (or if he's even allowed to )...  but if Cutler and Marshall are emerging as the leaders people want them to be, they'll make it happen somehow.

Speaking of back-ups and Cutler's age, now is the time I think to look at a younger back-up to groom.  I have always been iritated by the throwawy 6th round choice of a QB that has no chance to make the roster while you have a QB in their prime.  I'd say, barring significant injury Cutler is on the declining side of his prime.  Maybe still near the top, but just starting to past that mid-point.

I watched the Florida/ Louisville game.  Was pretty impressed with Bridgewater at qB for Louisville.  Nice poise, size, touch, played in cold weather and is not one of those read option QBs.  Not sure where he would be picked...

Crud!  NVM, he is only a sophmore...

Sometimes lower round QB draftees turn out to be good QBs.
