'GN missed Olt's first AB (when he popped up while they were doing a bit on the new stadium) and in his second he worked a full count, then looked at a fastball for strike 3. He's not as big as I thought he might be.

Castro and Grimm have been the highlights. Well, and Len and JD -- I really like them as announcers. Smart, insightful, no clichés, and funny.

Len and JD state that Blake Parker isn't guaranteed a job in the pen this spring.

I find that hard to believe, looking at the numbers he put up last season.

Does Rickie know that this game is on TV back in Chicago, that the crowd in Mesa is huge, and no one really wants to see Aaron Cunningham, Jeudy Valadez and Casper Wells? At least 2 of Baez/Bryant/Soler/Almora, please.

Parker may get squeezed out by numbers.  Right now, Veras, Strop, Wright, Russell, and Villanueva are guaranteed spots.  Cabrera is out of options, so that may help him.  That leaves at least 3-4 guys who they'd like to carry for 1 spot (maybe 2 if they don't carry Cabrera): Parker, Grimm, Rusin, and Rondon at least; maybe McDonald, Rosscup, and another non-roster guy or two.  So I could see how he'd get pushed out.

I agree that he should be a lock, though.  I expect he'll make it--right now, it looks likely that Arrieta won't be ready for the season, so that will put Villanueva or Rusin in the 5th starter's spot.  I think we'll probably see at least one or two of the Villanueva/Russell/Cabrera group traded by the beginning of the season too.

Rusin is getting pounded today.  1 2/3 IP, 4 runs so far.   31 pitches in the second inning.
