Congrats to the Legion.

The reason we play to week 17 is that there is a balanced schedule that we have always had since year one.  It rotates so everyone plays everyone else in the league an equal number of times.  The only exception was last year because I screwed things up and didn't save the schedule after I set it and then only realized it at the end of the season when people were playing for the third time against division opponents.

That takes 14 regular season games to accomplish this.  That leaves only three weeks for playoffs.  Week 15, 16 and 17.  We could eliminate the Wild Card round of our playoffs and only have the division winners in the playoffs.  This would be the only way to do it.  But then this year the 7-7 team would have been in while the 9-5 gravediggers, 9-5 Hog butchers, 9-5 Bombers would have not bee in the playoffs.  We would go from 8 teams to 4 teams making it.  I guarantee you that interest by mid-season would wane for some owners that don't have a shot at the playoffs and competition would be hurt.

Only two players were affected on the teams playing that were rested by their NFL teams.  The Legion scored 164 points despite having to sit Gurley.  Antonio Brown for the tigers was already injured and wouldn't have played anyway.

I wouldn't want to see the playoffs reduced from 8 to 4.  This is the only league I play in, how do the other leagues manage to have their seasons end the week prior?  Most people I speak with have a similar playoff format that end has two rounds before the final.

Most leagues don't have as many teams as we do.

Exactly...  We have 4 divisions with 4 teams in each division.  It is a legacy league with keepers.  It is a legacy league with a balanced schedule.  Every year you play each team in your division twice and then a team from two of the other divisions once.  The other division games rotate every year so you actually get to play every team even if it's not every year.

Non division games 99-05-11-17 were Danimal vs. Mongo -- Samurai vs. Sweetness -- Danimal vs. Samurai -- Mongo vs. Sweetness

Would Marriota's forward pass that was deflected back to him and then he scored, be credited as a td pass and a td reception?  Will probably never happen again, but....

Interesting

It would probably have been credited with both.  I will check the CBS site and see what they say.

From CBS...

Titans' Marcus Mariota: Catches own touchdown pass in 18-point comeback
January 6, 2018 9:00 PM EST | by RotoWire Staff
Mariota completed 19 of 31 passes for 205 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while adding a six-yard receiving score on a deflection and eight carries for 46 yards in Saturday's 22-21, wild-card round win at Kansas City.
Mariota executed a fantasy owner's biggest fantasy in the third quarter, as his pass was batted in the air by a defender and went right back into the quarterback's hands for what counted as both a passing and a receiving score from six yards out. That play ignited a previously dormant Tennessee offense, which erased a 21-3 halftime deficit. Mariota completed the comeback with a go-ahead, 22-yard strike to Eric Decker with 6:06 remaining. His will to win and ability to persevere through adversity don't always come across in the stat sheet, but those qualities have earned the third-year quarterback a trip to the divisional round next week.

Can you imagine had he done this from his own 1 yard line?  Pass, reception, 99 yard score.  23 points?

9.9 yards = 10 points
Passing TD - 6 points
Rec TD - 6 points
Reception - 1 point

More than that when you add bonuses in for TD distance.

PaTD   Passing TD   6 points
Plus 2 points for a PaTD of 40 to 59 Yds
Plus 4 points for a PaTD of 60 to 79 Yds
Plus 6 points for a PaTD of 80+ Yds

PaYd   Passing Yards   0+ PaYds = 1 point for every 20 PaYds
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 250+ PaYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 350+ PaYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 450+ PaYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 550+ PaYd

ReTD   Receiving TD   6 points
Plus 2 points for a ReTD of 40 to 59 Yds
Plus 4 points for a ReTD of 60 to 79 Yds
Plus 6 points for a ReTD of 80+ Yds

ReYd   Receiving Yards   0+ ReYds = 1 point for every 10 ReYds
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 100+ ReYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 200+ ReYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 300+ ReYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 400+ ReYd

Recpt   Reception   0+ Recpts = 1 point for every 1 Recpt

So it would be...

01 for reception
12 for 80+ yd TD Reception
09 for 99 receiving yards.  (We did away with decimal scoring years ago) (will not assume the extra one yard receiving because he would have to complete another pass to himself to get the 100 yard receiving 5 point bonus)
12 for 80+ yd TD Pass
05 for 80 yds passing (I just added one point to the 4 for 20 because you know he would have one more somewhere)
05 for hitting one of the passing yard bonuses.  (same assumption as above)

TOTAL
44 points total for a 99 yard TD pass to himself.  And well deserved if it ever happens.  :)

For what it's worth there have only been 13 total 99 yard passing TD's in NFL history.  It is the longest possible passing play by rule.
