I've had a couple of random ideas about the league, and Curt thought I should post them over here. So just my 10 cents on a couple of things . . .
1. I'd like for us to come up with ways to play up division titles and make them more meaningful. I think it's pretty cool how we have North, South, East and West divisions that are pretty well aligned with where we're all geographically located, and it seems like there ought to be ways to promote division rivalries and have some bragging rights based on that.
I believe CBS allows you to give out awards for teams besides just awarding the League Champion, so if we handed out awards on CBS for division title winners, I think that would be one good way to promote it. There might be some other good ideas the Circle or someone else can come up with, but that's one thought I had.
I just think there's a lot of opportunity to have something cool going on if we have some stability in the four divisions we have and if we can start promoting division or sectional rivalries. Just like in the NFL where winning the NFC North has some special bragging rights to go along with it, you can have the same type of thing going on with the BBFL South or BBFL West, etc. Plus it gives more teams something to play for late in the season if, for instance, the League Champion pretty much has the league wrapped up with a month or two to go in the season.
2. I'm honestly not a big fan of trading future year's draft picks. It's just encouraging teams to play for future years instead of the current season, and as confusing as it already us keeping up with what current year picks have been dealt, throwing future year draft picks in the mix just makes it even more confusing. Trading for 2015 picks before the 2014 season has even started just doesn't seem to be all that healthy of a thing for the league either. I think that's something that probably needs to be re-evaluated at the next winter meetings.
