...In KC, they don't really need a loogy--their late inning power righties are so good. Buck, however, has a bunch of good lefties. Cubs probably will lack really good lefties in 2015 but guessing not a priority this off-season, with Vizcaino and Rivero joining the other power righties....

An advantage of a deep, good RH pen is that usage is less complex.  Renteria did very little righty-lefty-righty mid-inning matchup switches, mostly full-inning outings.  Guys have less appearances; guys always have time to warm up adequately; no "wasted" warmups.  Probably more advance planning.  (V isn't pitching tonight, but we still have W, X, Y, and Z available, and using them isn't like giving the game away.)  Games go faster, too, and probably less mental strain on fans, manager, or relievers.

Theo's EOY press conference...

Baez is expected to be the opening day starter at 2B...

Did you listen live, Dave?  Brett's recap:  '“Our expectation is that Javy Baez will be on the team as the second baseman” next year.'

Get us a veteran catcher, an OFer,a TOR starter, and maybe one more starting pitcher and Ill go to war with this group.

Unlike recent years we arent too far away from being in the thick of things.

That both surprises, and disappoints me.

Theo understands that power bullpen arms are the new wave in MLB.

Being the new wave does not mean it is the right wave.

Theo with personal message to Jon Lester today with Chicago media:

Cubs plan to compete for NL central title in 2015.

Good strategy.

Hopefully Gordon Wittenmyer isn't wrong about his claim that Manny Ramirez is "going to work this offseason in South Florida with rookie Javy Baez, who accepted the invitation after Ramirez texted him."

Fantastic news if its for real. Baez could use a mentor, so to speak. I LOVE this move.

Yeah, that does sound very positive that Manny will work with Baez this offseason!

Theo's comments that "...we aren't going to sell out in '15..." and "...we're not going to bail on young players..." makes next season a bit clearer as does what he said re Baez for next season.

Though I still have doubts Baez will compete effectively at the MLB level next season and can understand why many astute observers will remain skeptical of Theo/FO until their Plan works with the Cub franchise, I certainly trust our FO (particularly after contrasting the words and actions of this FO with all our other FOs of the past 55 years).

GO Javy!

The thing I love about Baez is his drive to get better.  Everything you read about him says that about him. He wants to be great.
