The better predictive stat is xFIP and Zimmermann is 4.15 to Lester's 3.30 including today's game.

We will see.  I will note you never responded to my proposed bet as to which one of those two will do better this year.  I'm still picking Jordan.

Sure I'll take Lester in this bet.  If I win you must end every post for 1 year with the phrase "I'm Jes Beard, I know nothing"  If you win, I'll end every post for 1 year with whatever phrase you want.

Now, for the criteria in determing the winner....

I'm fine with any metric you want to use other than W/L record.

No you're not.

I suggest we use the metric of which pitcher who throws the most innings for the Nationals this season.  Somehow I doubt you are fine with that.

It also appears it was not you I tried to get to bet on this before, but instead Dave23

At that time I proposed what I thought was a reasonable impartial metric.... though I have forgotten what it was, but I haven't thought W/L record was the best was to evaluate pitchers since I was about twelve.

Can we ALL use that in our avatar?

bWAR, fWAR, ERA, FIP, RA/9 some combo of stats it doesn't matter.

No creating new user names and you have to let me know the phrase. Nothing vulgar.

I simply forgot about it, or I would have taken the bet. Was it a steak bet?

I don't recall what you chose as the metric, either...

Maddon on no sac bunts by pitchers: ”Bunting is overrated.” Not bothered if pitchers strike out, to keep them off bases if bunt fails

Rizzo is one tough dude!  What a player!

And I'm not ready to give up on Starlin, BUT I'm totally ready to see him moved out of cleanup...sure wish Joe would let that go, at least until/if Castro gets hot!

Time for Russell to move up?  I'd certainly think so.  Maybe switch places with Castro to see if that could get him going...his SLG has become really bad!

I sort of wonder if we're batting Starlin #4 in an effort to play him up before moving him (before the deadline)...unfortunately, that would be selling him low unless he gets hot.

That potential aside and knowing how Joe likes balance (e.g. L-R-L-R) in his lineups, I'd wonder about:
Fowler
Soler (Rizzo protect Soler)
Rizzo (Bryant protect Rizzo)
Bryant (I'd rather have a heavy-hitting #5, but gotta do something!)
Montero
Russell (deserves to move up...plus slugging)
Coghlan
Castro/pitcher in some order

I love Joe, but time for significant lineup changes!

Cubs are going after Ben Zorbist.

I'll bet we're going after Zobrist, but Billy Beane would HAVE to have a win that one after handing over Russell and McKinney and, ultimately, getting nothing in return.

Man, that trade MUST be haunting him about right now.  Russell sure looks like the real deal!  I'd love to see if we can figure out a way to extend he and Bryant SOON!!

Of course, Boras will likely never go for that!
