Could the Packers bring back James Jones?

Green Bay's former wideout is on the bubble with the Giants, and the Packers could be looking for a veteran receiver. Might a reunion be in store? Saturday

Packers bring back James Jones

Posted by Josh Alper on September 6, 2015, 5:32 PM EDT

Provides protection in case  Cobb or Adams is seriously injured, especially short-term.

He has certainly been hit by a lot of bad luck.  Maybe PS (for some team).

James Jones could be major Super Bowl piece
On Sunday, one day after James Jones was released by the New York Giants, the Packers added to their corps of wide receivers sans Jordy Nelson by signing him to a one-year contract, an NFL source said.

Jones had 310 receptions for 4,305 yards and 37 touchdowns in seven seasons in Green Bay, including an NFL-best 14 touchdown catches in 2012, but left to sign a three-year, $10 million free-agent deal with the Oakland Raiders in March 2014.

Jones had a team-high 15 receptions for 187 yards for the Giants this preseason, but was let go in the final cut down on Saturday.

The Packers will have to release a player on Monday to add Jones to the 53-man roster.

Jared Abbrederis signed to practice squad
The Green Bay Packers successfully signed wide receiver Jared Abbrederis and defensive tackle Christian Ringo to their practice squad Sunday but lost tight Mitchell Henry to the Denver Broncos.

Appearing in all four games for the Packers throughout the preseason, Hundley compiled a 129.6 quarterback rating, leading the entire NFL.

He completed 69.2% of his passes while throwing for 630 yards, and seven touchdowns.

His more notable games included the team’s third and fourth game of the preseason, which saw Hundley develop into a better player and look much more confident under center.

The Packers third preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles saw Hundley throw for 315 yards and two touchdowns while starting under center. For the preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints, Hundley threw for 236 yards with four touchdowns, which included a 142.4 quarterback rating.

Hundley has given Packer fans a sense of confidence if something were to happen to Aaron Rodgers this season (knock on wood). Although Scott Tolzien will go into the season as the team’s backup to Rodgers, Hundley has shown more of a game changer ability which may propel him into the team’s permanent backup job.

It has been remarkable to watch Hundley excel in the Packers high powered offense, after being passed over by so many NFL teams in the 2015 draft.

“I’ll always remember that; I’ll always remember Pick 147,” Hundley said. “But at the same time I know that I can play and I have a lot of confidence in my ability. I know I can play with the best of them. Now, Aaron, he’s an awesome quarterback. I’ve got awhile to get to that.”

WR Myles White released to make room on active roster; nine players signed to practice squad

Poor Myles. After 3 years of trying, on the PS he made the roster and, almost immediately he is removed.  Surely some team will sign him, though.

So BOTH Myles White AND Jared Abbrederis are available for any NFL team?

James Jones was, too, but he could be a major Super Bowl piece!

Vic, how did you enjoy the opening weekend of college football?

Most of the games I saw were sloppy, as I’ve come to expect of the opening weekend of college football; that’s the result of no preseason. I saw an avalanche of fumbled exchanges from center, and drop-back-and-run is not my idea of scheme or execution. Of the games I saw, I can’t think of one I’ll remember. I sincerely hope the NFL puts on a better show this weekend than college football did this past weekend.

Your inbox must be overflowing with James Jones questions. I think it will help Rodgers and take pressure off the young receivers, eventually making them better. Agree?

I think that’s a reasonable analysis.

Can you explain to me why the Eagles cut Tebow, who worked on learning their system for the entire preseason and did a respectable job in the opinion of most, just to sign another QB who didn’t practice or learn the system at all. In my opinion, QB is the hardest position to learn, especially in a Chip Kelly system. Wouldn’t it make more sense to keep a guy who spent weeks learning it?

Talent trumps everything.

Have we finally heard the last of Tebow?

I am excited for the opener in Chicago. What area are you most concerned about going into that game?

Winning that game begins with stopping the run.
