From the Trib (Biggs)

The Chicago Bears released tackle J’Marcus Webb on Friday in the first phase of their final roster cuts, but they will see him again soon.  Webb was claimed on waivers by the Minnesota Vikings, according to an NFL source, meaning he will be back at Soldier Field as a visitor in Week 2 of the regular season.  Webb started 44 games over the previous two seasons at both tackle positions and the Vikings apparently are in need of a swing tackle. Webb, 25, is healthy but the new Bears’ coaching staff tired of his inconsistent performances.  The Bears demoted Webb to the second team after the first preseason game and slashed his base salary from $1.323 million to $630,000. Because the Vikings claimed Webb, they will inherit his contract. That means he will earn the minimum of $630,000 with the Vikings with a chance to get back to $1.323 million through playing time incentives.  Webb will be a backup behind left tackle Matt Kalil and right tackle Phil Loadholt.

If they are wanitng info on our offense from Webb I am guessing they are going to come up empty or misinformed.  The guy obviously had no clue what he was supposed to be doing in it.

If signing players off your division rival's scrap heap provided any value then the Bears' should be signing ex-Packers.

Offenses have too many options and variations and change week to week.   And regardless of the play call it's all about execution.

Vikings saw film of Webb lining up against Jared Allen twice last year - so they saw something.

Webb is just horrific. I watched over and over a few plays of his this past game....he was just...bad. I mean BAD! One in particular sticks in my head. Bears run a sweep left. Webb, slow footed as he is, gets up and doesn't get his guy sealed off on the right side. He slants in, pushes Webb right out of the way and makes the play. Webb proceeds to 'appear' like he was bowled over and falls down. It looked ridiculous. SO glad he's gone....

Web sucks!  Glad he is gone!

Wish he could have gotten it together but the guy is as dumb as a rock.

Webb didnt even know his own blocking assignments, much less the rest of our offense. I'm not worried.

He is a big guy with long arms and experience, who is still young and really hasnt been injured at all. Those attributes alone will buy him at least one more chance. I'm surprised a division rival claimed him but not surprised somebody did.

Kalil and Loadholt are solid. Doubt he even sees the field Sept 15.

I doubt the Vikes signed him and pay him close to 700,000 then around a mil next season just to get the Bears offense from him.

Why does people think teams sign ex-Bears simply to learn our offense is beyond me.   Could it be the Vikings actually need a swing tackle?   It's quite possible!!!  :)

I watched Webb play every game over the 3 seasons and formed my opinions based on his performance between the lines, not on his social media presence or perceived personality flaws etc.

Now I must admit I didn't get to see many of the PS games nor did I see him in practice and maybe his play or possibly focus wasn't all there in training camp or PS which contributed to him being cut.

But here's what Emery had to say about Webb and his recent play and play last season where he started all 16 games at the most difficult position on the offensive line:

“Coming into this fall, we were very optimistic that he was going to be our starting right tackle and would continue to improve as a player,” Emery explained Monday during a news conference at Halas Hall. “He never gained the consistency, that sufficient level of consistency that we want out of our players, so at the end his performance wasn’t to our expectation level that we felt we needed to move forward with it.”

“Really, for J’Marcus, he had played, I will say that 14 out of the 16 games last year he was sufficient or better,” Emery said. “He had a lot of good games in that we grade sufficient, good, very good. Fourteen out of those 16, they were at least at the sufficient level, which you can win with that player and his performance on that particular day. Two of them were below that line. The obvious games were the first Green Bay game and the San Francisco game.”

Webb didnt even know his own blocking assignments, much less the rest of our offense. I'm not worried.

He played LT last season, and was switched to RT in training camp.  Then after the first game he's switched back to LT.   This was not the same system he  had played in the prior 3 years.

Wish he could have gotten it together but the guy is as dumb as a rock.

Do you know the guy personally?  Maybe he has some focus issues, possibly ADD, but I don't know the guy.

Kalil and Loadholt are solid. Doubt he even sees the field Sept 15.

Ya think?  (Guys get injured and often times the 3rd tackle plays on goal line and special teams).

They play us early.  They wanted info.

And hear what Emery had to say about that misconception:

Emery said he isn’t overly concerned with Webb providing the Vikings with information that would give them an upper hand in the NFC North rivalry.

“There’s only so many secrets in this league,” Emery said. “There’s a lot of tape. So I don’t know about secrets. Secrets in this league are things that haven’t been on tape yet that people are working on (that) are going to show up in that particular game as far as an adjustment. I don’t know if we’ve gotten that far in our game planning for J’Marcus to be able to share those. I’m sure he’ll share some basics, just like what is natural. We’ll always ask the basics (when we get a new player). But really, it’s being able to be well coached and make adjustments within a game that helps produce wins from a coaching aspect.”
