The Packers only guaranteed $500,000 of defensive lineman B.J. Raji's one-year, $4 million contract.

Less than a year ago, B.J. Raji and agent David Dunn turned down a deal that reportedly would have paid the defensive lineman an average of $8 million annually. Today, we're reminded yet again how ruinous that decision turned out to be.

According to multiple media outlets, only $500,000 of Raji's one-year, $4 million contract is guaranteed signing bonus. While that figure is high enough to ensure Raji a spot on the final 53-man roster, it's a precipitous drop from what surely would have been multiple millions of guaranteed dollars in the deal rejected last offseason. At a minimum, Raji's new contract contains over $17 million less in guaranteed money than his rookie contract.

Hours after receiver James Jones met with Oakland to sign with the Raiders, James Starks canceled his meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Jason LaCanfora of CBS. Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Packers are expected to bring back RB James Starks on a two-year deal.

Starks, 28, has been with the Packers all four years he’s been in the NFL since coming out of Buffalo. In 35 games, he has 1,427 yards on 322 carries with five touchdowns. After a ruined 2012 season due to injury, Starks played in 13 games in 2013 and complemented rookie of the year Eddie Lacy. He rushed for 493 yards and three touchdowns on 89 carries, and even though he missed three games with a partially torn MCL, last season might’ve been his healthiest.

Fighting through injuries for most of his career, Starks has been a very productive back when healthy. He played a key role in the backfield during the 2010 Super Bowl season, totaling 315 yards in the playoffs. The Pittsburgh Steelers were one team that reportedly had interest in signing Starks. Odd, right?

It’ll be interested to see what the Packers decide to do with their running back rotation for the upcoming season. Along with Lacy and Starks, Green Bay still has second-year back Jonathan Franklin and DuJuan Harris – who would’ve been in line for the lead touches last season if it weren’t because of injury. They also signed running back Michael Hill this off-season.

As soon as the agreement is confirmed and the details are released, we will have them up on the site as soon as possible...

Bargain.

Why is Finley going around visiting teams?  Otter said he was signed for multiple years.

If Finley is healthy, he would look real good lined up opposite of Martellus Bennett.

Most under-rated players:

Chicago Bears: Matt Slauson, OG
In 2013, the Bears revamped their offensive line. Slauson was signed as a free agent and became the team’s best blocker. Slauson has always been very physical at the point of attack, and he continues to improve as a pass blocker. Slauson did require shoulder surgery after the season, but he’s expected to return to the field by the start of training camp.

NFC NORTH SCHEDULES: Bears | Lions | Packers | Vikings

Detroit Lions: Stephen Tulloch, LB
While rarely mentioned as one of the NFL’s top middle linebackers, Tulloch has been consistently productive the past five seasons. During that time, Tulloch accumulated 639 total tackles. Tulloch is also comfortable in coverage, which makes him a valuable piece to the Lions’ defense.

Green Bay Packers: Mike Daniels, DE
Daniels is rotational player along the Packers’ defensive line, but he makes an impact when he’s on the field. Daniels provides a rare commodity: he’s a strong interior pass rusher. Daniels was second on the team with 6.5 sacks, and he outplayed the team’s first-round pick last year, Datone Jones.

Minnesota Vikings: Brian Robison, DE
Jared Allen has been one of the NFL top sack masters for years, and Robison proved to be a strong bookend. Over the past three years, Robison accumulated 25.5 sacks. He has a quick first step and consistently provides pressure. His 63 quarterback hurries led the NFL in 2013. Robison now has chance to prove he wasn’t simply capitalizing off of Allen and become the team’s top pass rusher.

Most over-rated players:

Chicago Bears: Charles Tillman, CB
The “Peanut punch,” in which Tillman punches the ball out of ball carrier’s hands for fumbles, revived his career in 2012. Injuries put him on the track to retirement in 2013. Tillman is 33 years old and can’t cover to the level he once did. This was evident when Tillman received little interest during free agency.

NFC NORTH SCHEDULES: Bears | Lions | Packers | Vikings

Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford, QB
Only Giants quarterback Eli Manning has thrown more interceptions than Stafford’s 52 the past three seasons. Stafford has failed to lead the Lions to the playoffs the past two years. And Stafford also benefits greatly from the play of Calvin Johnson, whom the quarterback targets 25 percent of the time.

Green Bay Packers: A.J. Hawk, LB
Hawk has been a stalwart at inside linebacker the past eight seasons — he started all but fives games over that time — but he’s always been average-to-below average in pass coverage. The Packers can be exposed when Hawk is asked to cover tight ends or crossing receivers.

Minnesota Vikings: Chad Greenway, LB
Greenway is what is referred to as a “run and chase linebacker.” He’s at his best when he doesn’t have to work through traffic. Greenway isn’t nearly as effective when he has to take on blocks and be more physical at the point of attack.
