Everybody kept waiting for the Deadskins to just cut Fat Albert too.  It never happened till the season was over.  A team in need of a QB can not just wait till the end of the year for the Deadskins to just cut him.

Talk around DC is just to keep him if you can't get what you want for him.  He makes a great option if Rex gets hurt or flat out sucks.  Which we all know both are highly possible.  So do the Deadskins fans.

Listened to the radio during the Queens pick.  Lots of boos in the background and I could detect some WTF tone in some of the radio head analysis.

Solid d-line for Detroit got better.  Hopefully they will continue to fail to protect their QB, play 2nd string QBs, and have a confused incompetent secondary.  But the needle is definitely pointing in the right direction.

F-uck the puke.

I somehow expected the Redskins to take a QB and they traded down instead.

The WTF pick for me was the Titans taking Locker.  Should be a good morning on Nashville sports talk

The 2nd WTF pick was Ponder to the Vikes.  Let's just hand Fairley to the Lions.  I never thought I'd see the run on subpar QBs like we did in this draft.

Well those QBs going like they did probably pushed Carimi to us.

I was watching the draft with my Vikings fan brother and he is livid about what they did last night.  Not only that they reached for such a mediocre QB prospect but that they handed Fairley to the Lions.  That selection of Ponder has "panic pick" written all over it.

They were saying the Vikes were trying to trade down.  It would be funny if it was Angelo that screwed that up too.  ;)

I can't believe that with Nick freakin Fairley sitting there at 12, that not one single team wanted to trade up to get him.

He must have seriously put some people off with his interviews but I believe a lot of teams are gonna regret not grabbing him before it's all said and done.

The other thing that may have happened is that they had a deal in the works to trade down but once Locker and then Gabbert went off the board they changed their mind and decided to stand pat before all their QB options were exhausted.

Yeah, I think the Vikes just assumed that Locker was going to be there for them.  And when he was gone they wanted to trade down and still pick up Ponder.  Way to high they picked him.

The Vikings must have real serious doubts about their ability to attract a veteran QB (e.g., McNabb, Kolb, Carson Palmer, etc.) in FA and/or execute a trade for same.

If they had any confidence in that route at all, they would have passed on the QB position in the first round, taken Fairley (or possibly Amakamura) and gone from there.  Maybe they like their odds better with having Ponder on the roster now in the event the lockout is re-instated and they have to wait weeks or months to pursue trades/FA.

Definitely some unconventional (or irrational, depending on your point of view) thinking behind that Ponder pick to be sure.

Was it Kiper or Gruden yesterday that was saying without being able to trade FA's if you have a need, you draft for it and dont assume you can do it in FA.  I guess, but dont reach that bad...

That Ponder pick so reminded me of what the Bears did the year we took Cade McNown.  It was even at the #12 spot IIRC.

The difference of course being that unlike the Vikings, we put ourselves into the panic position by trading down in the first place and letting the Vikings take Culpepper right out from under us.

In the past when it came to unmitigated disasters the Chicago Bears had no peer. And yes, I am including the Lions. When Mikey was running the show it simply was a chamber of horrors. Here's hoping those days are long gone.
