Vikings to play 2012 season at Metrodome

Tribune News Services
3:10 p.m. CST, February 15, 2012

The Minnesota Vikings announced they would not file an “intent to relocate” with the NFL by Wednesday's deadline and will play the 2012 season at the Metrodome.

The team continues to push for a new stadium in the area, but could be a candidate to eventually move to Los Angeles if a solution isn't found now that the Metrodome lease is up.

“We feel we're making good progress toward a solution,” Vikings VP/Stadium Operations & Public Affairs Lester Bagley said, per the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Team officials have never threatened to leave the Minneapolis area, despite a drawn-out and often contentious process of settling on a location and stadium proposal.

The Associated Press reports that the state Assembly in Wisconsin has decided to honor Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the 2011 NFL MVP.

Since Rodgers wears No. 12, the state Assembly has selected December 12, 2012.

Yep.  12/12/12.

The measure now moves to the Wisconsin Senate.

Meanwhile, Brett Favre may want to know why they didn’t do anything for him on April 4, 2004.

Ready to roll: Wide receivers Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel will be players to watch during the off-season after signing three-year minimum contracts to return. Gurley (Vikings) and Borel (Buccaneers) accepted sweetened contracts to stay on the Packers' practice squad after those teams offered them deals in mid-December to join their 53-man rosters.

Gurley measures 6 feet 4 inches and had the longest arms (35 inches) of any wide receiver at the 2011 combine. Listed at 216 pounds, McCarthy said Gurley has added 10 to 15 pounds in the weight room.

"He is ready," said McCarthy. "He's a whole different guy . . . from training camp to the end of the year . . . different guy. He had an exceptional year. He runs good enough.

"I like the diversity of our group. I don't like having all one type. He's red zone, posts. Big target."

Borel (6-0, 199) is faster than Gurley but needs development because he played quarterback at Utah State.

It would give them another QB who has proven he can beat the Bears?

Because GB knows how to build backups into starters?

 Hey Wml,

 Think about this ...

 Tebow to Philly ...

The OL is set up for left handers ...

already have a guy who used to be run first pass second ...

Reid taught him to pass first.

Tebow in the Reid situation would be a bigger version of Vick.

Vick ran around blockers ... Tebow would go thru them.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Tebow beat the Bears last year.

I would say Marion Barber beat the Bears in that game.  Tebow was just there to take the glory.

The main thing is that fuuucker torched us for 190 yards in the fourth quarter.

Barber fuuucked up ... but we let Tebow finish us. That was our game to be won.

Chalk it up to history.  >:(

Tebow did put up points late in the game.  I don't blame Barber entirely.  Even after he fumbled in OT the defense didn't stop Tebow from moving them down the field in FG position.

 Phil,

We fuuucked up. That game was ours. Tebow was sent to the netherworld ... we let him get back.  >:(

The only reason I could possibly see is as a RB capable of passing ala Hornung.

No they want him as a back up QB.  They think they can teach him to throw.

Anyone ... given the amount of time ... can teach Tebow to throw.

Teach him to throw?  Didn't he win 2 national championships as a QB?

He took a 1-4 team this past season to the playoffs (7-3 record).

Didn't he throw a game winning TD in OT against the Steelers?  Perfect pass too!  He also threw for 316 yards by the way.

He threw for 206 yards against the Vikings while putting up 35 points.

He threw for 308 yards against the Texans in their back yard back in 2010 and won the game coming from behind.

Sure he's had bad games but his passing isn't horrid.

I think the Broncos just played ultra conservative with him at QB because he's not the typical drop back passer.  He's also a running QB and that dimension is something Fox didn't know how to deal with.

If he goes to another team that really wants him at QB instead of fullback if given a chance to play I feel he'll be a much better passer if given talent around him and a coaching staff that believes in him.
