Best memory Hester returning the kick off for a TD in the Super Bowl.  The worst memory?  The rest of the game...

Time for the Bears to get a real stadium now.

No excuse for the Bears to play in a 61,000 seat stadium which is also the smallest stadium in the entire league.  Sad sad sad.....

No way Dave Williams run took 21 seconds...

I keep hearing how Sunday’s Broncos-Steelers game was the shortest overtime in NFL history at 11 seconds. I remember a Bears win over the Lions in 1980 when I believe Dave Williams ran the overtime kickoff back for a touchdown. How long did that overtime last?

Bret
Marion, Indiana

The overtime you’re referring to—on Thanksgiving Day 1980—lasted 21 seconds as Dave Williams returned the overtime kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bears a stunning 23-17 victory over the Detroit Lions in the Pontiac Silverdome. (I have no idea how 21 seconds could have elapsed; I watched the play on You Tube and it’s not 21 seconds even if you start counting when the ball is kicked instead of when Williams catches it.) The Bears had tied the game on the final play of regulation on quarterback Vince Evans’ four-yard touchdown run up the middle. The Bears have actually played in a shorter overtime game: Mike Brown returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown just :16 into the extra session to give the Bears a 37-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 28, 2001 at Soldier Field. That overtime is now tied for the third shortest in NFL history

You know, I recall the scramble by Evans that tied the score, I just don't recall that it was as time expired.  I'd love to see that whole game replayed...

The Minnesota Vikings new stadium will be talked in the same breath as the cowpokes stadium when it opens.   A 70,000+seat stadium with a retractable roof.  Super Bowl and Final fours will be played there.

The tricky part will be getting from here to there.  Specifically those two seasons they're saying the Vikings will need to play in TCF Stadium.  I'm interested to see how those years go because that is NOT an NFL caliber stadium and there are some mighty cold games in store for Vikings players and fans those years no matter how the NFL tries to rig the schedule.

Personally, I think the decision to build on the old Metrodome footprint is asinine.  Would have been much better to go out to Arden Hills and then the Vikings could have played in the Metrodome right up till the new stadium opened its doors.  It also would have been a much more commuter-friendly venue than downtown Mpls.  I went to a late season game with my brother at the Metrodome a couple years ago and waiting an hour and half outside to catch the light rail after the game was no fun at all.

The Arden Hills cost overruns outside of the actual stadium construction costs would have included new roads, bridges, and and toxic land clean up.  You just had a feeling this project would eventually end up in Mpls.  Mpls was also able to score funding for the Target Center remodeling as well.  Outside of some renegade city council member having delusions of grandier to tip the majority vote from yay to nay, it's a done deal.  As far as I know, the retractable option for the roof is not settled yet.  Hard to believe considering this will eventually cost a cool billion.

The Gophs get $3 million a season from the Queens.  The heating coils and additional endzone bleachers are all paid for by the Queens as well.  Not a bad deal for the U.

Minnesota will have the most pro, college stadiums and arenas' per capita in the world.

I dunno, maybe when your team only wins 3 games and you get swept by the Bears you aren't as apt to shoot off your mouth on a Bears board.

V2's still an original bro ... he predates half the people on this board.

I value the Vikings fan opinion ... V2 knows more about the Vikings then we do.  :D

 You gotta respect that.  ;D

Any info that V2 wants to post here about the Vikings is OK with me.

What goes around comes around. If you draft cheap shot artists and street punks, you have to expect that.

That team is out of control.

Almost makes you feel sorry for Megatron and Stafford...  the two best players on that team and also it seems, the only ones who aren't complete tools.
