It would be great if Motte were healthy enough to be added to Doc Joe's bag of tricks.

Motte hasn't pitched in so long he'd have to be way down the list of options Maddon would use. Hopefully, Grimm earned some trust back the other day.

In what could be a low scoring run environment wouldn't Berry provide a lot of value?

Montero is 3-5 with a double and 3 walks against Harvey, pretty easily the most successful Cub.

So nice that Lester can't let go of Ross for a game.

I'd rather have an extra reliever - Motte, Ramirez or Edwards. It looks like we'll be pitching Hendricks and Hammel back to back in games three and four.

Yes, that could be very true.  Getting Berry in from 3rd with one out is a lot easier than Montero.

Motte could possibly be helpful, if he's  back to his best.  (Huge if.)  Pretty much any Hammel or Hendricks start, that should totally be viewed as a potential bullpen day.  On Tuesday, Maddon pushed Hammel all the way into the 4th inning, and still used all his relievers.  Having one more might make it easier to pinch hit in the 2nd inning if a scoring opportunity arrises, and if it's already obvious Hammel or Hendricks aren't sharp.

Wonder if brass might be concerned about a long extra inning game. In 9 innings, Maddon went through entire bullpen in game 4, so perhaps add Haren as a long man. Mets has six starters on their division series roster, including Niese and Colon.

I think Haren would be a good choice.  Tuesday was pretty nerve-wracking realizing it was a 2-run game after 7, with Strop and Rondon as the only guys left in the pen.  Not much margin for error.  And with H+H set to pitch back-to-back games, on back-to-back days, we could well end up with a tired pen.

But Berry's wheels could be a game-changer as well.  Tough call.

if we're up 3-0, we could always politely forfeit game 4 and then hit them with Lester and Arrieta in 5 and 6.  :)

If Lester could somehow beat Harvey in Game 1, you'd sure start to like your chances with a Arrietta-Matz matchup in Game 2 (unless Arrietta really is gassed - and his velocity has been down in his last two starts, including the Pirates game).  If you could go back to Chicago up 2-0 it would be hard not to be optimistic.

In the end, it's just an absolute must to split those first two games in NY.  I figure if that happens it's a tossup, and if either team is up 2-0 they're an 80-20 favorite.

On paper, but as we know weird things happen in the playoffs. (Zambrano, Prior, Wood up 3-1.

Hopefully the CBS writers will continue with their record of picking the NL playoffs.  5/5 picked the Dodgers and 3/5 picked the Cardinals.

I just read that at least one of the 16 teams that existed in 1903 (when the World Series started) has appeared in every World Series.  Can anyone verify that?

If that's true, the Cubs are the only team left who existed in 1903.  History is in their favor.
