I just read that at least one of the 16 teams that existed in 1903 (when the World Series started) has appeared in every World Series.  Can anyone verify that?

If that's true, the Cubs are the only team left who existed in 1903.  History is in their favor.

It is true.

If the Mets make the World Series the will tie the Indians and White Sox in appearances, becoming the first expansion team to tie an orginal 16 team.  If the Mets or Blue Jays win the World Series they will become the first expansion team to pass an orginal 16 team in World Series titles (multiple teams including the Cubs with 2).

From 1947-1964, except for 1948 and 1959, at least 1 team was from New York. The Yankees did not make the World Series in 1948, 1954 and 1959.

It's a hunch, but watch the forgotten man in this series - I think Coghlan is going to have an impact.

I'd be surprised if he plays much.

As it stands he's our 5th OFer.

Interesting piece on Daniel Murphy's  post-season from Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight.com.  Included is the following bit about Soler's post-season:

In terms of OPS, Murphy’s postseason isn’t even the most impressive this year. That honor belongs to the Cubs’ Jorge Soler, whose 1.705 mark is now the 10th-best single-postseason OPS ever.2 Not only was Soler’s OPS superior to Murphy’s, it was also a bigger upgrade from the regular season: Soler managed only a measly .723 OPS this year, so he boosted his OPS by 982 points in October.

Soler’s hot streak is in the realm of the truly absurd. A player adding almost a thousand points of OPS to his regular season average should happen only about twice every 100 postseasons, even when you try drawing from the full complement of 35 players. But even then, we have reason to believe that Soler’s regular season performance was uncharacteristic, since it was marred by injuries. Last year, Soler put up a .903 OPS, which makes this playoff performance much less unexpected.3 But with the Cubs’ embarrassing sweep, Soler also doesn’t benefit from much of a narrative — all of that overachieving was for naught.

Probably not.  I suspect the front office noticed.
