John Arguello

For the first time since Game 7 of the World Series, the champion Chicago Cubs will take the field today...twice.

It's a split squad game and most of the regulars will be playing at home against the Oakland Athletics, so we can expect a huge ovation.  I will be there as well.  Here is today's home lineup..

Jason Heyward RF
Kris Bryant 3B
Anthony Rizzo 1B
Ben Zobrist 2B
Addison Russell SS
Willson Contreras C
Jon Jay CF
Matt Szczur LF
Ian Happ, DH

The starting pitcher will be Mike Montgomery.  In the bullpen, Brian Duensing and Jack Leathersich will be available from the left side while Aaron Brooks, Felix Pena, and Jose Rosario will be available from the right side.

Among those on the bench for this squad are Jacob Hannemann and catcher Carlos Corporan.

The Cubs will face Jesse Hahn and guess who is leading off for Oakland?  None other than Rajai Davis.

Second Game Lineup

The second squad will face off the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale.

Kyle Schwarber, LF
Javy Baez, 2B
Jeimer Candelario, 3B
Miguel Montero, C
Albert Almora, Jr., CF
Chris Dominguez, 1B
John Andreoli, RF
Munenori Kawasaki, SS
Mark Zagunis, DH

The starting pitcher is Rob Zastryzny, who impressed last year but now will likely be looking to provide AAA depth.  He'll be looking to position himself near the top of that list -- and he may already be there when it comes to LHPs.

Among pitchers available in the bullpen are Pierce Johnson, Dylan Floro, Jim Henderson, Maikel Cleto, and Jhondaniel Medina.  All are RHPs vying for spots in the AAA bullpen.

Available off the bench:  Catcher Victor Caratini, utility man Jemile Weeks, infielder Chesny Young, C/1B Taylor Davis, and OFer Eloy Jimenez.

Rosario got lit up. Command seemed to be his issue.

Oh man. Javy in mid season form.

That could mean a couple of very different things. Elaborate please?

He made a real nice play on a grounder to the SS side of second.  Slid to get the ball, got up and threw in one motion- a 1 hop strike to first.
