Just a thought...how stupid would Roberts have felt if Jansen got hurt or injured pitching the last inning of an 11-1 victory?

Now I hope the Dodgers sweep whomever wins the ALCS.  We would then at least be able to take pride in being the only team to win a single game against them in their postseason.

Yeah, that was pretty flucking stupid on his part.

No shame in losing to those guys.  They were 55 games over .500 at one point during the season and played like it during the NLCS.

Keep getting to the postseason and hope to be hot and lucky.  This season was another success.  It was also beneficial to have the problems and needs of the team laid bare.  We finally have the management to intelligently address deficiencies.  With the talent on this team and the skill of the front office, we're a good bet to make the postseason again in 2018.

Agreed Play, I actually hope the Dodgers win the world series. As we have seen this year, it is very hard to have that fire in the belly to repeat and yet, the Cubs were 3 wins away from getting back to the World Series. Do it again next year and hope that the offense gets hot and the bullpen needs are addressed.

I honestly don't feel the offense needs any major overhaul. We scored 822 runs - it's plenty good enough, even if we could use a couple more guys who get on base more and K less.  It's the pitching where 90% of the offseason focus and resources need to be dedicated.

The Astros have a wRC+ of 121.  They scored 896, 38 more runs than #2.  They had the lowest K%, the highest OBP, SLG, ISO in the league.  Going into game 6 of the ALCS they have scored 9 runs against a worse staff than what the Cubs faced.  Sometimes good offenses struggle.

Before their early/mid September blip, Dodgers were on pace to win 112 games.

Basically, that's the club we ran into in NLCS. A 112 win club. Tough to keep up with a club like that playing in top form. Maybe they won't be in top form in WS, who knows, but they were in top form in NLCS.

Sure, Cubs didn't hit and bullpen was lousy, and Cubs could have made it closer with both or either, but was still a terrific and fun Cubs season.

The kind of offensive players the Cubs have contributes to the inconsistency.  They are worldbeaters when hot, but they don't have enough high on base guys to be more consistent.  A high on base leadoff man would produce a domino effect that would really help.  Clearly, as Deeg has said, the bulk of the effort has to be in adding relievers and renovating the bullpen.

If Darvish goes FA, I would go high because it would serve a dual purpose...another quality pitcher and #2, he wouldn't be in LA.

Darvish should get a pretty fabulous contract, especially given the paucity of front end options. He’s east the top SP on the market this offseason and he’ll get paid like it. I’d certainly try and steal him, but I just don’t see the Cubs paying the kind of money it’s going to take.

538.com weighs in on the Cubs' season and postseason (and is rather unkind to Joe):

No lineup yet for #Cubs 1st Cactus League game Fri vs Brewers but Happ, Schwarber expected to play. Roth to start and Zastryzny, Alvarez possible pitchers
