Javy always seems to react dramatically to injuries that don't amount to anything.  Not saying he's hamming it up or anything--just that many times I've seen him down and thought "Oh, ****, he's really hurt" only to see him pop back up and keep playing.

I think it just goes to show he has a lot of that Cardinal Cub Grit in him.

Baez's hamstring 'still bothering him a bit'

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Friday that Javier Baez's left hamstring is "still bothering him a bit."

"It's still there, it's still bothering him a bit," Maddon said. "We're trying to figure out exactly what's going on." Baez said he was merely dealing with a cramp when he was pulled from Thursday's game, but it appears it may be more serious than that. He's been ruled out of game action through at least Saturday. We could know more about his status later this weekend.

Don't think the weight loss has hurt his power...

Well that was only 8 rows deep.  He would have put that 20 rows deep last year.  What a disappointment.

Time to leave park: 0.2 seconds.

Well, maybe not - but it was quick.  Hard not to feel a sense of optimism about Kyle this season.

Almora piling up the extra-base hits. Heyward even smoked a double.

David Bote impressed in the AFL. He sure takes one wicked cut:

Bote could be useful.

He does take a healthy cut.

His swing reminds me of Glen Allen Hill

I know Spring Training results mean nothing. And it's still early enough that the team on the field doesn't really resemble the regular season team at least half the time. But the Cubs are really dominating Spring Training. They're 11-2 with a +33 run differential. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come in the regular season.

A lot of the damage has been done by the minor leaguers.

And they aren't even good enough to make the team.

The BA Prospect Handbook states that Bote profiles as a utility man in the Yangervis Solarte mode; Solarte has played 320 games at 3B, 140 games at 2B, 36 at SS, 38 at 1B, and 7 at LF during his major league career.

Bote is interesting because he puts up underwhelming numbers, does not wow Scouts, and yet gets written up by them as a potential major leaguer.  There is something intangible to like there beyond the fact that he has the "makeup and savvy" of a future major leaguer.
