Almora creams an RBI double. A bit more elevation and that was gone. His second hit.

Contreras hits one about 420 off the batter's eye in center.

4-0

I just pulled up the night game on MLB.com.  First thing I noticed--it's weird to see McCutchen in a non-Pirates lineup.

Happ homers off Bumgarner to start the game for the Cubs. That's his 5th homer this spring, and 3rd hitting from the right side. He couldn't have done any more to earn the leadoff spot so far this spring.

Someone needs to tell him to save it for the season!

Chatwood has 7 strikeouts through 3 innings. Not bad. If he can just stay healthy...

Chatwood hitting 93-94 a number of times.

I've got kind of a Matt Clement sense with him.  Excellent stuff, perhaps inconsistent control.  Might look really good some days, might be too wild on others.

It's kind of interesting to speculate whether a guy like Clement might have benefitted from modern-day technology.  Could the kind of pitch-sequencing and pitch-distribution analysis that Borzello and Hottovy do have helped him?  Could all the video have helped to analyze is delivery, and get a little more consistency?

Two things...

1) Colorado’s infield defense is terrible? Really? In what bizarro world?

2) Chatwood reminds me quite a bit of Matt Clement. I was a big Clement fan.

Chatwood's splits are not a mirage - he was a very good pitcher away from Coors.  If he can stay healthy he's going to pitch more like a #2-3 than a #4-5.

Chatwood is probably done for tonight. Final line: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. That's pretty good.

Have any other Cub pitchers gone 5 innings this spring?
