Game time temp around 35 degrees, with 35% chance of snow showers.

Average high temp this time of year is around 55 degrees or more.  But in the Midwest, spring has decided to take this year off.

Fixed it.

With no ballgame this afternoon, I thought I'd watch the golf from Hilton Head.  Because of incoming bad weather they teed off early in threesomes on both nines and the tourney is already over.

You're still allowed to watch.

As of 9:45 this morning, the temperature is a bracing 28 degrees and the ground is covered with snow, which is still falling. Snow is likely to continue til around 2:00, at which point it could turn to rain, as the temperature should have risen all the way up to a balmy 36 degrees.

But fear not, intrepid baseball players and fans, there is only the slightest chance of precipitation beginning around 4:00, two hours before game time, with the temperature holding steady at 36 degrees until about 8:00, when it will start to drop.

Sharma has an interesting piece on how pitchers evaluate their own performance in games (with some other stuff thrown in as well).

I know revenue is important, but April night games are just stupid.

When I am Commissioner...

No baseball games below 55 degrees (with wind chill)

Automated strike zone

No DH

If there were no games with a wind chill below 55, my son's team would never play a game. They never play a game without a steady wind.

I imagine that goes for many other teams across the Midwest as well.

This is the Cubs' 4th postponed game already (including the opener, which was made up already). They've only been scheduled for 9 games that weren't played in a ballpark with a roof.

Your son went North.  Give CJ a compass.

I'm in Minnesota, it's sunny and nice today, we'll be sending some nice spring weather to Chicago very shortly.

Don't remember many >55º days during my high school spring season in Wisconsin; and if two no-dome northern teams made the World Series, might be cancelling more games than you'd play....  :)

Our first baseball game in Sheboygan was against Christian, but we played almost all our games in Howards Grove to get away from the lake.  We finally switched to summer league play and Christian and Lutheran did a coop team on a new field at Lutheran.  They played nearly 20 summers and now Wisconsin is ending summer ball.    For many schools that means no more baseball, because, like you say, it's just too miserable in spring unless you're at least 50 miles from the lake.
