I hope that Maddon isn’t overusing Cishek. It seems like he must be leading the team in appearances, and it’s probably unnecessary to use him in an 8-1 game.

We can joke about the RISP, but today we got them and won as a result; yesterday Rockies got them and we didn't, and they won as a result.  Today is probably kind of a good example of the randomness;

Sacrilege.

Hitting with RISP is clearly a learned skill, the end result of which is also the product of personal guts and character.

Cubs are now ahead of the Indians 9-2 (still batting) in the top of the 9th, in Cleveland.  Ho hum. No wonder there is so little commentary here tonight.

He's 6-17 w/ 9 RBI. All singles including two infield hits.

It's with any runner on that he's been the best---1.204 OPS.

My error -- I was looking at both Almora and Heyward at the same time, and drew the stats from the wrong tab.

But my point remains.

When you are talking about 6 hits in 17 AB, one less hit, or two less hits, would seem to make a big difference, when in fact it is just a hit or two.  If he had gotten one less hit his very impressive BA drops to .294, and if just one more hit failed to fall his BA would drop to a weak .235, when it would only be a difference of two hits.

My point was that you are talking about incredibly small sample sizes, and that point remains even if the stats I references were wrong.

Nice to see lots of good AB's, and to have a no-drama win.  And nice to have the offense pump it up so that Chatwood didn't need to be very fine.  Bundle of walks again, but otherwise pretty effective.  2-game winning streak, longest of the season; 2-games above .500, high-point of the season.  Nice.

Happ's 3 hits, and suddenly he's up to .259.  A week ago it seemed like there were only two guys above .235; not there's only two below .250.

Small sample sizes.... pretty much the same point I was making about Heyward's performance with RISP...

Happ up to .755 OPS, Heyward 4 straight multi-hit games. Funny how the first week of the season isn’t the end of everything.

Hot damn this lineup looks a lot better when Schwarbs is mashing. We missed you last year, Kyle.

Also, given the early returns on Baez, Heyward, Schwarber, is it too early to start singing the praises of Chili Davis?

Bryant doing his best hitting work in his short career, Happ seems to have gotten turned around real quick, lots of oppo field hitting, etc.

Speaking of beanballs, Grisham does a nice job with Calico Joe, bring the tissues if you read it.  I enjoy this topic immensely, don't get to see many games.   A Big Thanks to all the posters.

Big game tonight.  (Is the weather going to allow?  Is this going to be maybe the last of the cold and rainy and crummy weather games?  It's great out here in Minnesota these days, so I'd think the nice weather ought to be turning up east and south of us.....)

Just like that, 2-game winning streak and they've moved up to tie-for-3rd place.  would love to extend and get a 3-game winning streak, longest of the year.  And reach 3-games over .500, kind of get away from the .500 mark.

Obviously could be a huge deal if Bryant was able to return, hopefully healthy and good.  Pretty critical for season hopes that he isn't compromised long-term or short by the beaning.

Rizzo got a fluky infield hit, then followed with another single.  Would be so great if he started to contribute at least a little bit.

Stringing together good-hitting games is important, I think.  If guys expect that there will be hits, I assume the psychology is way better for everybody, hitters and pitchers too.  Critical mass and all that.

Rizzo looks really skinny.  I hope he's healthy.
