I think if one takes a dispassionate look back, that had to be one of the most aggravating 95 win seasons in baseball history.

The Cubs have been to 4 straight playoffs for the first time ever. The lost what should have been there best pitcher, closer, best position player to injuries. Rizzo sucked because of his back in the first half, Russell sucked because of injuries and then is likely gone because of suspension. This team still almost pulled off the best record in the NL until they had to play everyday for almost two months.  It freaking took Yelich impersonating Barry Bonds for the Brewers to catch the Cubs.

The Cubs are fine. I hope the add Harper or Machado, but the doom of some people on this board is rediculous.
Amen.

I'm a moderate on this, but "the Cubs are just fine" seems like whistling through the graveyard to me.  It's pretty clear that the offense, as is, isn't working.  We were almost MLB leaders in getting shut out or scoring 1 run, and that was just a worse version of a big problem from last year.  The bullpen has been a dumpster fire going into the playoffs (including '16) every year, whether you want to blame the front office or the manager.

The Cubs are clearly a good team in a weak NL, but they have a lot of holes that can't simply be excused away by a few injuries and a rough schedule.

Co-leaders after the Rockies game, tied with the 115-loss Orioles.

I have been in Italy the last two weeks. I saw 5 people wearing Cubs caps in Rome during the last week. And I had about that many people respond to my Cubs cap on days I wore it.

It is strange to be both so physically disconnected from Chicago and the US while being so electronically connected to Cubs games and this forum.

Except, of course that I am 7 hours ahead of Chicago time, so 7:00 games start at 2:00 AM here. Several nights I awoke in the middle of the night, checkefd the score, then was kept awake following the game on Gameday.

For me, it feels like the eventual loss to the Rockies sort of constituted a relatively merciful end to the post-seaon. Seems like the position players were just completely spent. Would have hated for the team to have gotten swept by the Brewers in the NLDS.

Apparently Strop was pitching hurt and hiding it so he wouldn’t get yanked, and said after the game he’d have been out for the NLDS.

I dunno, man... Something just seems broken with this team right now. Something has to change.

Agree! Anyone that thinks this team is fine has lost their mind... Scoring is an absolute problem. Another problem happened the day they signed Darvish..

Bryant coming back healthy would be the equivalent of replacing Heyward with Harper.
The Cubs have some issues that they have to address, but they don’t need to completely change this team up. Which is why I say the Cubs are fine.
