I don’t think it was the same.

Barry Bonds played 71 games at A ball and 44 games at AAA before he was called up.

With Wood I remember being surprised that he was called up after 1 start at AAA in 1998, because I was hoping to see him pitch at Iowa.

Both guys debuted when they were 21. Bryant debuted at 23. I think the difference is guys where debuting at younger ages and there was still development left at the major league level. Guys are left in the minors until they are pretty much a complete product so the service time being pushed back is a bigger deal.

Kyle Hendricks starting today for the Cubs, with Jason Adam, Rex Brothers, Brendon Little, Trevor Megill, Shelby Miller and James Norwood available behind him. - Jordan Bastian

Other than Hendricks, this is going to be a high velocity day.

I think today's lineup gives us a hint about what Ross' everyday lineup is going to look like.

Today:

Happ, CF
Contreras, C
Rizzo, 1B
Bryant, 3B
Pederson, LF
Baez, SS
Maybin, RF
Bote, DH
Hoerner, 2B

Everyday:

Happ, CF
Contreras, C
Rizzo, 1B
Bryant, 3B
Pederson, LF
Baez, SS
Heyward, RF
Whoever, 2B

Bryant doubles in 2, then he's TOOTBLAN for the 2nd out, and Joc HR's on the next pitch.

3-0 going to bottom 1...

Shelby Miller 94-95 with the fastball.

Put him in the rotation if he stays effective this spring.

Miller looked good...94-95, and tight spin on his breaking ball. Megill looked great again.

Hoerner 0-3, but hard contact all 3 times...he's not missing his pitches...

If they take a second lefty in the bullpen, it's got to be Brothers.

They don’t admit to that because it would breach the contract. Otherwise, they would have no problem saying what Dave said in his posts. But, they come up with unconvincing “baseball-related” reasons. Not a coincidence"

I suspect public relations has more to do with announcements like that.  And even if the team feels they will win it, there is no point in inviting a grievance.
