Miller looked good again today.
If they don't add him to the roster before his opt out and he winds up going elsewhere, they might as well just stop signing these reclamation projects altogether. He's been as good as anyone could reasonably hope a comeback guy like him to be.
Would be helpful to know details of Miller’s opt-out date.
As AZ Phil has noted, if Miller’s opt-out is opening day, then Cubs figure to add him to roster. If opt-out is later, it might be best to stretch him out at SB and get him ready as a SP.
Miller got a K in last outing on a good breaking ball in dirt but the breaking stuff is behind his heater right now. Seems to be commanding FB well and hitting 95. But, hoping Cubs have some flexibility on the opt-out.
Megill looked good again and deserves to make the club but don’t see an open roster spot unless Cubs release some 40-man FAs (Workman? Holder?). But think Cubs will want to control as many guys as possible.
Brothers is also deserving and might have an opt-out too? Guessing he makes the club, even with the option.
40-man gets more complicated if Romine can’t go opening day and Cubs have to make 40-man room for Higgins. Could see pitcher with options DFA if that is necessary, or one of the vet relievers.
I’m assuming that Sogard takes Vargas’ 40-man slot. Wonder about a Maybin opt-out date too? Maybe Cubs prefer Torres in any case.
