Deeg, did you see Brennen Davis' hit?  Just a single, but the way the ball came off the bat was...different.

Nope, just a few highlights on Twitter.  But Davis has what they used to call a live bat, for sure.

Just checked box score, 3 walks and 8 runs, listed one out into the 2nd inning.  Tough day for him, too bad.

Most of the damage first two innings was against Gamez and Strock. Thompson wasn't great but had some hard luck. Gave up a hard hit double to Upton landing base of the CF fence that I think some CFers would have caught, perhaps Marsinick. Happ didn’t.

Higgins is brutal catching low pitches that have action. Two got away with Thompson in there, that hurt him. Hoping that Romine can go because skeptical that Higgins can catch at this level.

I reviewed the box score and they replaced some Thompson damage with Gamez.

Too bad that Higgins didn't look legit.

Pitchers have raved about Higgins. Everybody can have a bad game.

Pitchers seem to like working with Higgins, which is important, but that’s different than whether the guy catches the ball consistently.

Not going to be surprised if Cubs pick up a catcher released elsewhere, if Romine can’t go opening day.

Higgins may have value as a multi-position guy but not sure about him as a #2 catcher.

No more nuveen to be seen.

Jeff Garlin might still ask if Nuveen is a shampoo.

The font on the Pirates' side of the scoreboard looks much better than the one on the Cubs' side.  Using variable widths for the numbers make the batting averages look so sloppy (like Bryant's .211).  Just have every digit be the same width.

Listed as available to pitch behind Alzolay: Gámez, Little, Maples, Norwood, Rodríguez, Tepera, Wieck. - Jordan Bastian

Since Adbert almost certainly won't go more than four innings - if that - we'll probably see at least five of these guys (unless somebody gets a two inning look).

Since Maples, Tepera, and Wieck are still in big league camp, I imagine they'll get priority.  Little and Rodriguez next, please.

Tonight's game is on the MLB Network.  No word on who will be working with JD.  I'm still waiting for a chance to hear what Boog is like doing the play-by-play.

I see the Cubs are protecting Alzolay's confidence by starting him against weak hitting teams.
