Bryant goes oppo into the basket...5-1 Cubs. Myers got an accidental beer shower for the effort.

Former Cub Pierce Johnson replacing Paddack...

Tingler upset about the beer shower...accident or not...probably more upset about the 3 dingers Paddack gave up.

Question:  re: WAR.  Is Rizzo's WAR impacted by Bryant or by Ortega.  Bryant is replacing his position, but the real guy replacing the player is Ortega.

I believe that the WAR uses as it's base an "average" replacement, rather than the specific instance.  So his WAR depends upon his own stats, not the stats of the person he replaces.

Still to early to tell, but we may have a great find in Patrick Wisdom.  Perhaps the hitting lab is starting to contribute also.

Well, Iassogna was having a good day behind the plate, but he blew it with a bad strike 3 call on Wisdom, who is having the game of his life...

As a group, is this the best stuff a Cubs bullpen has ever had?

Kimbrel
Winkler
Nance
Maples
Brothers
Steele
Thompson
Megill

Plus the soft tossers Tepera, Chafin, and Wieck.

Then there's Mills.  Somebody always has to be different.

I’d struggle to name a better Cubs pen...

The Cubs have had a lot of good closers, such as Smith and Sutter, but seldom had much beyond that.  There really wasn't such a thing as a set up man before the last decade or two, but the closest thing to that was the role filled by pitchers such as Abernathy and a few others.  Beyond that, the pen was manned by guys that were not good enough to start, and when someone did perform well in relief, they were soon moved into the rotation.

Even more recently, relievers in the minors were usually failed starters, or starters that have had injury problems and weren't trusted with a long workload.  But the most recent trend has been drafting pitchers with the intention of keeping them in the pen throughout their careers.  Carroway is one of the first for the Cubs.  I hope there are many that follow.

The bullpen has been amazing. What happen when Rowan Wick returns?
