2-1 after 4.  Just tuned in to see a 1st-and-3rd one-out situation, Urias bunting, pitch was outside, and Contreras made a quick great throw to 3rd to pick off Taylor.  Not sure I've often seen the 3B pickoff, very timely.  Especially because Urias then immediately ripped a single, Alcantara would have had it deep, but Rizzo dived after it and deflected it away.  Betts then ripped one but right at Bryant.  Just watching that inning, Mills didn't seem to be hitting his spots well at all.  Given his stuff, he can't afford to miss very often.

Ross and the Cubs are kinda lucky to get Mills through 4 innings with only the 2 runs allowed, and a 1-run deficit.  Hopefully the bullpen will have more luck tonight than yesterday, with 5 innings to cover.

Alcantara with a terrible AB after Heyward leads off with a double.  Would like to at least make contact and advance the runner, but he takes a couple of big swings and misses on top-edge fastballs, then takes a fastball almost right down the middle for strike 3.  Somewhat a little on the outer half, perfect for hitting to the right side and at least advancing the runner.  Very bad guess there, bad AB.

Happ with a nice, kinda-lucky opposite field slice down the right field line gets in Heyward.  2-2.

Announcers talking about checking the pitchers.  I've been watching.  They check the glove and the hat, but nobody checks the hand.  What sense does that make?

What I have said many times is that prior to the trading deadline, the Cubs should make their very best offer to Bryant, Rizzo and Baez, and if they refuse to sign, then they should be traded, regardless of how the team is doing at that particular time.

I have also said many times that the Cubs should not trade significant prospects for two month rentals, regardless of how well they are doing at the trade deadline.

You have constantly either sidestepped those contentions, or have conflated the two issues and refuted neither.

So, hypothetically and assuming they want to go to free agency, if the Cubs have a 5 game lead at the trade deadline, you would like to see Cubs trade away Bryant, Rizzo, Baez. All of them. Is that right?

In the 120-year modern history of baseball, is there any precedent for something like that?

Winkler does a great job pitching around a walk to Betts, striking Muncy and Turner out to end the inning.  Still 2-2.

Wieck and Winkler both have really effective outings.  brothers in now, he always makes me really nervous.  K's the first guy.

A couple innings back, Heyward hit one that was initially ruled a HR, then overrules (correctly).  But he missed the pole by about an inch or two.  So close.

The Cubs bull pen has been truly incredible since May.

Brothers K's the side.  That guy gets so many chase swings.  If the hitters would just chill, at least two of those K's could have been walks if the Dodgers could have only laid off.

Cubs had a cool top-of-the 8th.  Bryant, Rizzo, and Baez each came up swinging, Bryant his a rocket that Turner snared.  But they went down on three pitches.

Any or all of them.  Just out of curiosity, if the Cubs were 5 games ahead of this division at the trade deadline, what would you say the odds would be of them winning the World Series with this tea
What difference does it make if there has been any precedent for it.  However, the White Sox "White Flag" trade while three games ahead comes to mind.

Sure wish Hayward's "home run" hadn't been called foul

The Sox were 3.5 back when they made that trade.
