I was thinking the same. Maybe we’ll have a strong 4th quarter and win 21-14.

We were well-positioned for a field goal in the top of the sixth, with two on and nobody out. But a Joc double play and Javy pop up turns the ball over to the Packers.

This is really bad folks, 6 games back is actually 12 games back.  Gonna make up 6 games with this stellar starting pitching staff?

This should be interesting when the inning ends...will they check Sogard's glove and hat?

He clearly has what looks like pine tar on the bill of his cap.

It’s baseball.

Laugher game. Sogard moves from 3B to pitcher. Contreras to 3B. Pederson to 1B. Heyward comes in to play RF for one inning.

When Heyward spot comes up next inning, no point having him run unnecessarily on planned day off. Mills stands there and Ks.

Nothing funny about that...he was pinch hit because he is batting.161

Arrieta pitched 1.2 innings.  Gave up six runs but only three ER, checking the box this morning that means an error or two, am I right?  The only error by Cubs was a throwing error by Arrieta.

Keep your earned run average down by making errors.  Past ball that results in a run?  Wild pitch that results in a run?  Are they ERs? WP must be.  If that is the case then the throwing error that resulted in runs should be earned runs.

I like Ross and I think the players do too, but sometimes his decisions are head scratchers.  He has 3 lefties in the bullpen who have proved to be useful: Wieck, Chaffin, and Brothers.  Brothers had a bad outing a few days ago when Ross tried to use him for a second inning.   So yesterday, with a one run lead, he brings in Morgan, a rookie, who, in my estimation, has not achieved the circle of trust Ross requires.  Why?  That was a crucial and losing decision.

And the way our free agents are playing, they are hurting their future paychecks with their recent performance and hurting their trade values as well.

Where can you hide Baez in the lineup where he won't kill a crooked number inning?

First, Morgan is not a rookie. He has 200 games in big leagues and 5 years of major league service service time.

Second, Ross almost never uses Chafin in 6th inning and, with Tepera out, unreasonable to expect him to do that.

Brothers threw 32 pitches on Wednesday, so he probably had a couple days off.

Wieck has thrown a lot lately too but, in any case, to quibble about Morgan vis a vis Wieck?

The choice there is leave in Mills or to bring in a lefty and Ross did the latter. A reasonable choice.

The big play that inning was Happ failing to get the scorcher grounder hit by Castellanos. Very hard hit ball but Happ is positioned perfectly to knock it down and get an out—-a play many 2B would make. He didn’t. So, Votto up.

Chris Myers is with JD again today.  I don't mind Boog when he is there, but I don't miss him when he is gone.
