Yeah, I'm really optimistic that he'll end up becoming an effective guy. Between Mekkes, Alzolay, maybe Lange, maybe even one of the big arm wildmen like Norwood or Maples, I'm optimistic that they can get some effective free service from some farm guys.
As with all things Cubs bullpen, control seems to be a problem for Mekkes, and command even less likely. His control isn't AS bad as Maples or Norwood, though. So we'll see how consistent he can get.
I also kind of like to see unusual guys succeed, with his size and delivery/deception. Also like to see Midwest guys succeed for the Cubs. He's from a small town outside of Grand Rapids where I went to college. (Urban growth might have now encircled Jenison by now, beats me.)
