Groundball single ends Quintana's night. Would've liked to see him get one more chance as bad as this bullpen is.

Kintzler coming in. Hope he can keep his good start going.

Zero walks for Q so far.

After tonight's start, Quintana's ERA is 3.43...which is pretty impressive considering he gave up 6 ER in 3 IP in one of his starts. In the other 18 IP, he has given up 2 runs (with 26 K and only 4 BB).

Kintzler got a double play ball against the first guy he faced, but then a hit and a walk to Castro has Alfaro up as the tying run with 2 outs.

Alfaro with a 405 foot fly ball to the part of the ballpark where the wall is 407 feet away. That was scary.

Cubs play "screw the closer" for the first time this year...Bote walk, moves to second on a wild pitch, gets to third and scores on sac flies.

Anyone else think that was kind of a quick hook for Q?

Definitely a quick hook. With this bullpen, I don't think they can afford to pull starters when they've been dominant through 90 pitches.

Worked out, though (by about 2 feet).

Would have liked to see Q go all the way.  Who is warming up for the ninth?

1.096 OPS for Heyward, BTW.  Definitely the best two-week stretch he's had as a Cub, by far.

Strop in for the 9th, so Joe isn't taking chances with a 4 run lead.

I think his pitch count was a little high for that, but 8 innings seemed realistic.  I don't think you should have any problem letting him go 105-110 pitches if he's not laboring.

He's barely pitched, so that makes sense.

Damn, Javy has launched some oppo bombs this year.  What a massive talent.

Cubs win! Marlins don't bother challenging a close play to end it.

That's 10% of the season played, and the Cubs are on 70 win pace. Much better than when 5% was played and they were on 40 win pace.
