Darvish has been a completely different pitcher since getting the lead. Maybe just score 5 runs for him in the first every game from now on.

A shut out through 4: regardless of how wild the pitcher, keeping him focussed...this Davis is quite a catcher.  Sign him to an extension!

Personal catcher for Yu at least.

The first baseman landed on the bag, so Javy was out whether he got tagged or not.

BOTE AGAIN!  7-0 Cubs. Play Bote--there are plenty of guys who can be benched for him.

Yup, looks like he did.

Meanwhile, Bote just feasting on bad pitching here.

If a pitcher has more HR allowed than K after 18 IP, is that bad?

I don't think it was clear Walker landed on the base on the Baez play--it looked like he probably barely touched the edge of the base, but the angles they had weren't clear.

It would've been an interesting challenge because it looked like the umpire signaled that Javy was out on the tag, not because Walker landed on the base. If the umpire's call was that Javy was tagged out and the Cubs challenged the tag, then I think they would've won. But then the Diamondbacks could challenge that the foot was actually on the base...and I think that might have been a "call stands" situation where there isn't enough evidence to overturn.

But the video umps would see the foot on the corner of the bag regardless of the field ump.

I you're going to rip him a new one every time to struggles, maybe give him credit when he pitches well?

I'm all-in on Joe not babying Darvish the way he has been, but at 90 pitches maybe not a bad move to go to the pen here.  Tough call with a 7 run lead.

Yeah, but the key is that the umpire appeared to signal that Javy was out on a tag and Walker missed the base. If that was the call on the field, then the Cubs challenge the tag play and they win. I don't think the replay umps are allowed to consider whether the foot hit the base or not because that wasn't the challenge.

Then I think it would be up to the Diamondbacks to decide if they wanted to challenge that Walker's foot was actually on the base. And I'm not sure there was conclusive evidence to determine he touched the base. To me, I don't think it looked like he landed on top of the base. It did look like the foot was against the side of the base, but the angle they had wasn't 100% clear.
