Cubs win. This has to be the best 3 start stretch of Hendricks’ career.

Wow, what a game for Hendricks.  Who needs any hitting with the pitching the cubs have been getting.  Unbelievable.

That was a great catch by Almora.  Really fun.  Kind of nice to win a game despite being out-homered, too.

Hendricks had as many hits as he gave up. That’s a pretty good recipe for success.

Really great to win the opener here.  With Darvish tomorrow, that's probably a disadvantage game. And with Castillo going on Thursday, that's probably a disadvantage game too.  But win the first one, no chance of getting swept obviously, and then take a couple of shots in disadvantage games and hope you can pull one of them out somehow or other.

I can't remember very far, but I know the cubs have won at least the last two starts by Darvish.  And after yesterday off day and tonight being a light night for the bullpen, Maddon should feel entitled to get the bullpen in early tomorrow.  Let Darvish go 3 or 4 innings, and see how it's going.  But if he's super wild as usual but somehow they're tie or leading after 3-4 innings, be ready to pull him early.

Or, maybe he'll be sharp and be able to throw 5-10 changeups for strikes tomorrow, you never know.  (Fastball being his changeup).

Hendricks ERA now at 2.86. That’s 8th in NL.

Cubs have 4 SPs in NL ERA top 20.

Lester, of course, is #1.

I I like the Darvish/Montgomery pairing. Get the opponent setting up their lineup to face a righty, and then bring in a lefty by the fourth or fifth inning, who can pitch as long or longer than the starter.

Wonder if this will be Taylor Davis's last game?  Caratini should be ready anytime.  Or, whether maybe they'd like to keep three catchers, and Caratini will take Zagunis's roster spot instead?  Davis be Darvish's personal catcher; Caratini be Hamels' personal catcher, and maybe give Contreras a start or two in the outfield on occasion?  Or if Rizzo's back is going to be a season-long battle, maybe play Caratini at 1B once in a while?

Davis isn't that good, so to have Caratini simply replace him makes a lot of sense.  But Zagunis has been so useless, I'd almost think they ought to be able to pick up some 4A player who'd be a little better bat than Zagunis.

Zagunis is replaceable, but he gives you a pretty professional AB coming of the bench as a pinch hitter.

An interesting question.  Caratini is a switch-hitter and can play in the field a bit, but I don't see much value in keeping Davis.  It's not like Darvish has been lights out with him as a batterymate.  Sooner or later you want Yu to figure it out with Contreras catching him.

Zagunis’ days are numbered in any case when, presumably, Zobrist comes back from the restricted list.

Darvish sucking again in the first inning. 1-0 Reds with Suarez on second and 1 out.

Davis is pancaking the low pitches.
