Thanks for your post, Reb...must have been a FUN game to attend!  Seemed like lots of Cub fans there.

I loved the Schwarber AB on tv...hoping he can, somehow, remain at leadoff for a while and perform.

Seems like his grinding, 13-pitch AB (and oppo HR) was KEY to the game's outcome.

Reb, I'd love to hear what it was like watching Schwarber's AB in person.

Contreras never made it back to plate until play was over. A very weird play

I noticed that too.  When you watch it again you notice from one angle he actually finds where Edwards is fielding the ball then it looks like he reacts to the pain of it hitting him in the exposed arm and turns his back to the field and bends over grabbing his arm.  When he turns around he notices that Edwards started a pickle and then he dashes to the plate for his turn to accept a throw.  The runner would have been safe if he had not run so far out of the baseline.

I hope they saved some runs for Sunday Nights game.  That is when I will be there.  If anyone is interested in going let me know.  My wife might back out on me.

You should be all right for Sunday.  But if history is any indication, the Cubs will be fortunate to get many hits, let alone runs on Saturday.

Reb, I'd love to hear what it was like watching Schwarber's AB in person.

Person I was with (NOT a big baseball fan) asked me after the 4th foul whether there was a rule about the maximum number of fouls a batter could hit.

That would cut down on gametime some, I suppose, but would miss out on Schwarber’s homer maybe. Think that half-inning lasted a half-hour. Really noticeable how, in a long AB like that, the effort it takes for both the pitcher and hitter to refocus after each pitch. Game goes into slow-down mode and emphasizes how each play in baseball starts with that one-on-confrontation.

Fun outcome there. Think that Schwarber felt pretty good about himself, especially given the game situation. Maybe he gets a boost from that going forward.

I couldn’t believe Barraclough kept going back to the same spot low and away...it makes it easy when you know where the pitch is going to be...

That's known as the "Antonio Alfonseca Effect".

Lester doesn't have much tonight, but Strasburg looks dominant. Cubs already down 2-0 with Nationals on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out in the third inning.

Lester was due a start like this. He’s been both good and really lucky so far. Had to even out sooner or later.

Can't believe Joe left Lester in for the middle of the lineup in the 5th after the Cubs started to get a little momentum last inning. He manages to get one more out and give up one more run before being pulled.

Edwards only comes in when he can blow the game. Ship has sailed, Bruh.
