Actually, he did bring in Edwards...down 4 runs in the 5th, which is exactly the kind of situation Edwards should pitch in.

Strasburg is through 7 innings on about 80 pitches. He might be able to finish this game, and can at least get it to Doolittle by himself. Not looking good for the Cubs to come back tonight.

Strasburg has been terrific tonight!  Locating all of his pitches, while throwing well over 70% strikes.

Sure appears to me that Addison Russell is starting to look good again at the plate.  He's had two very good ABs tonight vs a very tough pitcher.  IF he can really get going at the plate and take over at 2B, we become a stronger team.

I know some on this Board don't think he will ever hit much.  I certainly disagree.

Cubs lose. They played the game under protest because Maddon didn't like how Doolittle was pitching.

Doolittle puts his foot down and then picks it back up, restarting his delivery. That was supposed to be outlawed and Edwards was admonished for it earlier this year.

I don't think he liked how Strasburg was pitching either.

What a disappointing ending to that half inning

Cubs turn 4 walks into a run.

3 walks and a hit batter, rather.

That shows how much a couple of inches can change an outcome.  Bases loaded and no one out, Baez hit one square, but Rendon dives to his left and catches the ball, throwing to second for the out, although one run scores.  But the scene is set for a double play that ends the inning.  If Rendon doesn't get that hard hit ball, almost certainly three runs at the very least score.

Say what you will about Alex Rodriguez, but the man loves Baez and Contreras.
