At this point I have much more confidence in our DL rounding into form, than our offense.

Other than the OL, the offense doesn't look any better than last year... and our WRs look noticeably worse.

It's Chicago..the defense is always better than our offense.

I don't agree with your 2nd statement.  If our O-line is improved over late last year's version the offense will close the gap with the defense, even if Cutler and Forte stay the same.  I expect our wideout play to be improved.   Knox, Hester and Bennett have another year with the offense.   And I think Roy Williams will make some plays but will not be the savior some had hoped.   If he sucks he'll just become this year's Aromashodu.

As for TE, I think there will be times when we miss Olsen, but I think the Bears have a few downfield plays to Davis that they are saving.  Recall that in college Davis was more of a receiver than a blocker.  He can go get it.

One thing I do know is we had better get Forte extended PDQ.

Right now he's being the good soldier but we can't count on that going on forever. If he determines we're stringing him along and he just decides to shut down in response, our whole offense is screwed.

IMO we need to get a deal done with him no later than the end of September.  Ideally it would be done before Sept. 11 when the games start to count.  I hope it doesn't take a couple of dreadful early season games by our WRs before Angelo & Co. realize Forte's importance and do the right thing.

Is Forte in the last year of his contract?

I know most don't have a high opinion of Angelo but he isn't a total numbskull.  Of course he wants to re-up Forte.  But what if Forte is asking for money with the elite HBs in the league?

Somewhere in the middle exists the right number that both sides can agree on, but it could take a while for both sides to get to that point.

Angelo has given a lot of Bears a lot more money than they were worth.  Tommie Harris, Kreutz, Orlando Pace, Chester Taylor, Malamaleuna and Frank Omiyale all come immediately to mind.

Forte is one guy I don't mind overpaying at all.

The Bears offered Forte more then Jamaal Charles got.  Forte turned it down because he wants more.

The Bears hold all the cards.  They can simply let Forte play out his contract this year then put the franchise tag on him next year.  The contract they offered Forte would have payed him more then the franchise tag.

PFT says the offer on the table to Forte includes $15 mil guaranteed.  That seems fair to me and I really don't think Forte would get that kind of money from anybody else.  He might want to talk to Olin Kreutz about that.

The bean counters on both sides have all year to work this out.  It's about time to play some football.

Forte is obviously banking that he'll have a career season, which will give him a lot more leverage this time next year than he does now.

OTOH, perish the thought, but he could also sustain a major or even career ending injury this season, and if that were to happen then $15 mil in the bank would be pretty nice to have.

Who doesn't have cable?  Seriously?
I don't have cable.

Between Neflfix, Hulu, the web, and what I can pick up over the air...I'm good.  The only problem I have is that I can't keep a steady reception on OTA channels.  So I "might" get the basic, basic, basic, package.

This may be the other reason Forte is biding his time...

This has simply gone past ridiculous.  Bud Adams has obviously been drinking way to much to agree to that absurd amount. Forte just got way more costly. Seriously, this is just stupid amounts of money.

You guys think there is a chance we just franchise him next year and let him walk?

Like I said before 5-6M per is fine, 8M might be ok if he makes the pro-bowl but I can't see what CJ got.

Mark it down, he won't play 3 more years.

Yes I do.  In fact after the CJ deal I think it's a very strong possibility now.
