Only saw the first half, but in the second quarter, half way thru I noticed when Paea went in was when the Browns started moving down the field.  I was trying to watch for him, but he just got lost and did nothing.  Not so great for our second round pick.

As others have said, maybe he just needs a year in a pro strength and conditioning program.

Hopefully Marinelli can get him coached up.  If he can't, then Paea's long term prospects in this league are probably pretty slim.

Right now Okoye looks to be the best FA move we made this offseason by far.

He's strong enough and most likely in shape.  He just needs to improve his technique, leverage, etc against a high level of competition and he needs opportunities every week.  In other words get him out there on Sunday...don't expect him to improve watching from the bench.  He may turn out to be more of a NT type or might be more of a 3 technique (Melton/Okoye).

Speaking of Melton and Okoye...didn't see them play together once during the PS.  But I'd bet next week on our first 3rd and long they both are in there.

Melton and Okoye have both looked extremely good this offseason at the 3-Technique so barring injuries to either of them, Paea's best chance to get on the field is clearly as the other DT. Which puts him in competition with Anthony Adams and Toeiana as well as Marcus Harrison (if he survives the cuts), so that's gonna be an uphill climb for Paea this year anyway, I think.

He'll make the final 53 no question, but how much playing time he actually gets remains to be seen.

You are probably right.

I just don't see why the NFL has this 'only 45 men can dress on Sunday rule".  What purpose does it server?

Only makes teams risk more starters on special teams.

I cant help but think Paea is going to have a mystery leg injury that explains his poor performance and he goes on IR for a redshirt year.  Just shoot me now.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that.  The obligatory redshirt year for a highly drafted defender.  Of course that's what will happen, good call.

Yeah, Angelo admitting he made a mistake with his 2nd round pick? Nah, never! Forget that.

You know when you think about it dont you want to think that your 2nd round pick should be starting for you? Isnt that the way you should be drafting?

Well I guess we were misjudging Paea. This from the Trib

Stephen Paea: It's fair to say the second-round pick has had a disappointing camp and preseason, perhaps because he still is coming back from injuring his knee at the Senior Bowl earlier this year.

He has not played with much quickness and has been stuck on blocks too frequently. But he did flash potential a couple of times in the fourth quarter Thursday.

Paea pressured Browns quarterback Jarrett Brown, causing guard Pat Murray to commit a holding penalty. Later, he got a lick in on Brown that forced him to unload the ball quickly. That was the pass Bears linebacker Deron Minor intercepted.

Paea probably could have benefited from some time with Marinelli this offseason but that didn't happen with the strike.  It's going to be hard to get much playing time since the Bears are so deep at DT.  We'll see, but I think most of you guys are way too premature in your analysis of him.

Everybody has been talking about Hughes making the team if Bell or Barber are seriously injured or as the team's 4th HB.

But didn't he play some FB in college...why can't he make the team at that position.  First of all he has to be able to block.  If he can, you then get the benefit of bringing him in on short yardage.

The cutdown today will explain everything.

 Who makes the practice squad?

I read something about Lance Briggs not playing against the Falcons.

What's up with that?
