Yep, I checked out the "game to go" on my ipad, just to see if it worked. Glad you guys mentioned the problem, cause I was like, WTF? Something was drastically wrong. I was checking my internet speed thinking maybe it was me.

The game locked up after a few seconds so i did the 5 minute reset abd the same lockup over and over..  I called and they had a message they were having problems so nothing I could do.  Went to another TV regulat def. and that worked un til they resolved the problem in the 3rd quarter.

Yeah...  not good, especially when they had those ridiculous Deion Sanders ads going around the clock to promote the service.

I figured our d-line would do well against a Falcons line starting 2 guys without an NFL start plus their LT Sam Baker gives up a lot of sacks.  He lines up against Peppers.  Nuff said.  Melton showed these flashes last season in a part time role when he was undersized for the position.   There's a new sheriff in town.

Our O-line, particularly are tackles did OK - obviously there is room for improvement.  In Martz offense the line is going to give up pressures due to the amount of time needed for the patterns to develop.    Cutler really didn't have a monster game but given time he can be efficient and really hurt a defense.  Actually, some of Cutler's best throws were the ones he threw out of bounds.

And on the play that Cutler overthrew Davis on the sure TD pass, it was Davis who stopped his route short.   Cutler threw to a spot...if he had more time I'm sure he could have adjusted his throw.   I know some of you Olsen-haters think Davis can do no wrong but he had a so-so day.  He's definitely a load but I think we'll see him used more down the field in the future.

Briggs, and Roach were kind of quiet, as were our safeties.  Tillman whiffed on a bunch of tackles.  Did anyone see the long Turner run where Tillman runs right by the runner to a spot on the other side of the field?  I saw him do the exact same thing last year.  But his ball punch was huge and he more than made up for some of his tackling miscues by some timely pass defenses.

As for Forte, pay the man!

I agree with all of that.

I think you short-sell Cutler a bit, though...given time, he will absolutely shred a defense.

Cutler and Kellen just need a little more time to get it together. That play was a lot more complicated than it needed to be so Martz wasn't doing them any favors there either. Davis is going to physically outmatch most guys he goes up against on the goal line so why try to get all tricky about it?

I think Cutler will find Davis in the end zone at least a few times this season before it's all said and done.

I didn't mean to.  Cutler didn't really have many long passes did he?  The long pass PLAYS were actually very short passes.  Cutler had a lot of short and intermediate throws - basically taking what the defense gave him.

A very good game...not a monster game.

I remember several of Cutler's throws that traveled a good distance through the air.

True, Cutler's yardage was greatly aided by the huge RACs by Forte and Hester, but the other way to look at it is that Cutler did his job of getting those guys the ball in a position where they could do something with it.  There are plenty of teams in the league wishing they had a QB who could do that (see Minnesota Vikings).

Hard to tell from ESPN's recap, but he had throws of 23 and 25 yards in the 1st quarter, to Williams and Knox, respectively...

He had several completions of 12-20 yards as well, (which ESPN refers to as short passes), which, by the time you consider his drop back, are probably 18-25 yard passes...fwiw...

12 to 20 yards is a "short pass?" LOL, from the perspective of old-school Bears fans any pass over 15 yds is a big play.

The fact is very few big pass plays are thrown more then 10-15 yards.  Most have yac.

The long bomb is a very low percentage pass.

Martz rarely threw deep the first half of last year but opened things up later on.

Yes, the bomb is a low percentage pass - it serves its purpose even if not completed.
