I was wondering too about those two grounding calls.  Cutler's throw, it appeared to me, made it back to the LOS while Brees' didn't...  yet the rulings went exactly the opposite of that.

There was definitely a home team bias going on with the stripes yesterday but even with good officiating we still would have had our azzes handed to us.  The Saints weren't going allow us to take them to 0-2, and we clearly came into the game distracted by the Urlacher stuff and then we really checked-out after the early injuries.

It's hard to say whether these Bears are as good as the team that beat Atlanta or as bad as the team we saw yesterday.  Best-case scenario is that we're somewhere in between. I do know it's scary as h-ell to realize that the Packers hung 42 points on this same Saints D that stomped us into the turf yesterday.

As for next week I'm seeing Packers, 38-10 and Cutler doesn't finish the game.

supposedly Cutler's didn't get across the line of scrimmage and Brees throw did. Hellifiknow. That helmet hit on Earl should be a fine and or a game sit. The nfl better do something or next week ALL wideouts are going to get it.

The Saints did what the Falcons did not- play man coverage on our recievers (who cannot win the 1:1 on a consistent basis) and blitz the hell out of the the offense and its game over. OVER.

Another year of Cutler's playable life is down the tubes (and he's taking punishment at a 3:1 ratio, so its like each season is like playing 3 seasons behind a typical NFL oline and offensive playcaller).

Not to mention Urlacher, Pep, Peanut and the gang are also not getting any younger......

Its only 1 game and they are 1 and 1, but this team is definitely not even near the top 3rd (or even bottom of the top 1/2) of the league......

Well hey at least we get to play the Chiefs and the Seahawks this year.

Although, we'll probably find a way to drop at least one of those games.

TEs got no catches yesterday - were they too busy BLOCKING?

If I don't have Bennett or Roy Williams - I'm looking for Davis or Spaeth!

Martz was watching fom the booth yesterday - maybe he needs binoculars

I didn't get to watch this game but I did watch  part of the NE/SD  and part of the Phi/ATL game and one thing I noticed is most of the time those QB's get the pass off fast, especially early in the game. They get the pass out so fast that the rush doesn't have time to get there. Once they clicked a little they would try some longer stuff.
I think we need to mix in more short passing early to give the OL and Cutler.
One mississippi, two mississippi, throw the ball or throw it away.

If it hadn't of been for Forte we would have been lucky to have 50 yards passing yesterday. And would probably have lost by 2 more TDs than we did.

Yeah, he's that important to this team and I think it's time he gets paid.

Bears offense does not really have a short passing game to the WRs and therein lies our problem.  Our midget WRs (Knox, Sanzenbacher and Hester) aren't physical enough or big enough to make a catch in traffic with a DB on them.  You need more than just speed in a tight space.   Bennett can...and you'd think Roy Williams would have the size but I'm not sure he has the guts.

Throughout the game (until the very end) Cutler had plenty of time but the receivers were blanketed.  This game reminded me somewhat of the Packer game at the end of the regular season and why I was so adamant that they sign a BIG time receiver in the offseason.

A receiving TE might have helped yesterday...oh nevermind.

On the grounding plays I didn't listen to the announcer much so maybe they explained.  My opinion is that Cutler's knee was already down and it should have been ruled a sack.

As for Brees, his ball did not reach the LOS, but I don't recall how close it was to a receiver.  Looked like a ground to me.

That's what I couldn't figure out. As I understand the grounding rule, if the ball doesn't get back to the LOS it doesn't matter if there's a receiver in the area or not.  IIRC Brees was at least 15-20 yards behind the LOS when he threw and there's no way the ball went even that far.

I predict there will be a ton of Packer fans in the crowd this weekend to see a loss to the Pack.

Roy Williams = Cyndi Rice with worse hands and a lower price tag. I was pretty stoked when we picked up him and Barber (more so Barber) from the Cowboys but so far they both have been total busts.

I think the grounding rule is something like if it is in the vicinity of the receiver you are ok.
If you are outside of the pocket it has to go past the LOS but doesn't have to be near a receiver.

By the end of the game Cutler was totally shell shocked.  He was sacked 6 times, but how many times was he hit/knocked down?  15-20 easy.  I dont blame him at all for being pis-sed.  I think that explains why his throws were off at the end.  And Sanzenbacher is ssslllooooowwwww.  I mean real slow.

I also hate Joe Buck and his anti Chicago attitude.  And did you hear how giddy he was to say he would be doing the GB game next week?  He probably creamed his pants when he said that.

The Packers didn't exactly look like world beaters against Carolina.
