Throughout the game (until the very end) Cutler had plenty of time

Which game were you watching?  The oline stunk all game long!  The refs gave the Bears a gift with the bad call on the roughing the passer call but outside of constantly dumping off to Forte Cutler had practically no time to throw.

They couldn't pass block nor run block yesterday and that was an embarrassing performance period.

That was not a bad call by the refs. You can't drive the QB into the ground and that's been called that way for at least a couple of years.

The Packers didn't exactly look like world beaters against Carolina.

The point IS that the season isn't lost but very well may be due to mismanagement of very important areas of this team, i.e. the Offensive Line. We shouldn't have to look to Spencer as a stopgap at center or Webb at LT or OmiIsuck at RT....we should have ALREADY ADDRESSED THIS in prior drafts!! THAT is the entire point of this matter. Neglect!! And Angelo's head should roll for it....his handling of the DL and OL are very much the same as Martz's handling of the play calls this last game- 90% DL, 10% OL.....ignorant....

Look at the pressure Cutler and Brees had on them. One guy was clearly under pressure.

Tice gets Angelos afterthoughts and has to make somthing of it.

In fact the whole offense gets Angelos afterthoughts.

The trouble is the DEFENSE which Angelo loves, has to pay the price,by being on the field all the time.

Angelo shoots himself in the foot by thinking in one direction only. Not a well rounded way of thinking.

Typical knee jerk reaction.

Not saying the O-line had a great game, they share in the loss along with Martz, Cutler and the receivers.  But the Saints defensive game plan appeared to be load up on the LOS to stop the run and hope Martz abandoned it (which he did) then continue with heavy blitzing (pass and run) and man coverage on the WRs (who still couldn't get open).

So now you have a situation where the Bears have given up on the run, and the Saints know the Bears are passing and can not only let their d-line pin their tails back but also let a couple three  LB/DBs blitz consistently, they know they don't have to worry about the TE because the Bears don't have a guy now that Olsen is gone that can beat them deep, they know they can cover our WRs with single coverage with a single safety deep.

Going into the game I figured there would be some pressure on this O-line Sunday even though the Saints didn't have a legit pass rusher.  On the road indoors in a dome (fast surface), and Martz' playcalling where he calls a lot of plays where Cutler sit back (never rolls out) and waits and waits for long developing routes.  And to top it off you lose your blitz breaking WR early in the game (Bennett) and your other recievers Hester and Sanzenbacker are dropping key 3rd down passes that kill drives which turn the ball over to the Saints offense.

And that offense happens to be one of the best in league led by Drew Brees (recall they put up 34 points on the Packers IN Green Bay).

And you sit here and whine about the O-line...what game were you watching...the Titans?

I have been royally ****ed since the summer, when the Bears had a golden opportunity to add a No. 1 receiver and once again passed.  I keep trying to tell myself that the experts surely know more than me.  Then I read something like this, and I get royally ****ed off again.  Seriously, you bring in Mike Martz as your offensive coordinator, you pay a king's ransom for a QB to operate in a 7 step-drop system, and then you go bargain hunting at WR?

Nice article - couldn't agree more.   I don't know that Roy Williams can be that WR, but maybe he can be that WR some of the time which might open up some opportunities for the other guys.

Martz has many issues but one of the biggest ones is, he thinks his system can turn any pair of average WRs into Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce.

It can't.

Like any other offensive scheme, a baseline level of WR talent is required.  Holt and Bruce were perennial Pro Bowl WRs, at least of one of which will wind up in the HOF and possibly both before it's all said and done.  Those are two of the premier WRs of my generation and we don't have one WR who is even close to that level, much less two.  So until and unless Martz recognizes the limitations of our WR talent -- i.e., lack of size, the inability to stand up under physical DB play and a lack of willingness/ability to catch the ball inside under duress -- and adjusts his offense accordingly -- we will see a lot more of this.

Unfortunately I'm not sure that will happen as long as he's here.

I'm not sure what he really can do.  The system is the system and the receivers who played Sunday need time to get open -- time they don't have.  Agree that they desperately need RW to step up.

I'm not sure what he really can do.

Making some provisions for Cutler to audible in obvious blitz situations would be a huge step in the right direction. You want to bring the house on a blitz?  Fine, then we'll audible to a draw play and Forte will gash you for 25 yards or more right up the middle.  That kind of thing.

I mean seriously...  Martz has been around long enough to have faced Gregg Williams multiple times.  Same with Dom Capers.  Yet these DCs come out and totally shut his offense down and it's like he has no idea what's coming, or what to do about it.

I actually was kind of excited when we brought Martz on board but he clearly is what others said then that he is...  a hack and a fraud whose system is no longer viable against today's better NFL defenses. He can't leave soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

Is he cleared to play Sunday? Is Bennett? Louis? I haven't seen nuttin yet. Hope so. Also, somebody get their butt in Halas hall and tear out the page in the playbook that has that stupid 7 step drop crap. Use it for toilet paper in the the main john.

Injury reports come out on Thursdays, I think.

I'd be surprised if Louis plays, and I'd be surprised if Bennett didn't.  Carimi obviously is out.  RoyBoy and Barber, hard to speculate.  I don't know if Wright suffered a concussion against the Saints but if he did then he's almost certainly out for Sunday.

They are not calling it a concusion, but a head/neck injury.  Ok.

Another play to throw away is the one where the LT lights up next to the RT or vice versa.  I think I read they have run it 4 times, and each one was a disaster.
