Wshfl;

Look at the league last week, other teams who had blow out victories or at least very decisive ones like Baltimore in the first game subsequently lost the second game.
Ravens lost to the Titans.

Good teams that lost came back with desperation and won, Falcons etc.

I expect Martz saw how "well" the line did in week one and got a little full of himself.
I expect he'll be more like the Martz we saw in the last 1/2 of the season against GB.

You're assuming the Bears will be playing with "desperation" this week.  I don't think it's safe to assume that at all. That's not how Lovie rolls.  In his mind, we're still only in the first "quarter" of the season, remember.

If there's motivation for this Sunday's game it's going to have to come from veteran player leadership. Which over the years has been spotty at best.

I'm not assuming anything or predicting anything.

i'm just saying it's the nature of the NFL for good teams to bounce back after a bad loss.

If the Bears continue to lose badly they're not very good.  if they are good they will play a strong game.

This game has the potential to get butt ugly.......

At least we aren't the Dolphins, Rams, or Chiefs......

But definately closer to the bottom 1/3rd of the league than to the upper half......

Right now I'd say the Bears have 9-7 talent, 5-11 coaching...  and a 2-14 front office.

They got s0d0mized by the Giants early last year - and went into the playoffs as the #2 seed...

Draw plays, quick slants,  place Cutler in the shotgun formation,  go no-huddle.  Do something because it seemed to me the Saints knew what was coming all game long.  Like I said, you're the ONLY ONE that claims the o-line was doing okay for 3 qtrs?  LOL!!!  Cutler was getting hit so many times during the game alone but of course that doesn't concern you.  Incredible.

Yes Davis whiffed on a block but that wasn't the ONLY reason the o-line looked like crap.  They did the whole game long but of course YOU didn't see that.

And you heard a BUNCH OF CRAP about moving Webb to RT.  You must have super hearing or something.  :)

I am not the only one that defended the O-line.  Many here and in the papers have commented that the O-line was doing Ok through the 3rd quarter.  And statistically, not one of our starting lineup was credited with givng up a sack Sunday.    Not saying they had a good game, but I'm not going throw them under the bridge.  Tice has some more work to do with blitz recognitions and pick ups especially.

But when you consider the dome noise and the surface I thought they did OK considering that Chris Williams is considered the most experienced guy at his position Sunday!

BTW, the Davis play was HUGE and he is a TE not an O-lineman.   I'd say that play and the bomb to Henderson were the 2 most important plays of the game.

Yes, Cutler was hit often.  He will continue to get hit often.  Its the nature of Martz offense and playcalling, in combination with our in-experienced line and our lack of big time WR talent.

One thing I mentioned after the Olsen (the guy who can't run over anybody) departure was that defenses would no longer have to account for him like they have in the past, that is, they could assign a lesser defender to our TEs now.

Not saying that Olsen would have made the difference Sunday.  Not saying that Martz would even utilize him even if he were here but until both Martz and Kellen Davis prove they can make the TE posiition a threat to defenses we will see more concentrated coverage on the wideouts.

I've been as big a Kellen Davis fanboy as anyone on this board, but here's the deal.

If we're not going to throw to him at least a few times a game, he needs to give way to either Spaeth and/or a 3rd OT because he is simply not getting it done in pass protection at all.

The failures of Kellen Davis in this offense are not failures of talent, but of utilization. Kellen is an enormous target in a pass offense that desperately needs a physical presence and especially on short to intermediate routes in the middle of the field. Keeping Kellen in to block not only takes away a safety valve for Cutler, but exposes his weaknesses in blocking.

Was Kellen targeted even one time against the Saints?  I sure can't remember it. Right now the only thing Martz is doing with Kellen is putting him in situations where he's destined to fail.  And not only Kellen, but Cutler and the entire offense are suffering because of it.

Well I remember when Lovie was hired as the coach he said his first and main priority was TO BEAT THE PACKERS!!!  So you may think that the veteran players will be depended on for motivation I have to disagree because I do believe the coach wants to beat those Slackers.  Now WILL THEY beat them is another question!

I used to take Lovie at his word on this point...  until the final game of the regular season last year when he gift-wrapped a win for the Packers which ultimately put them in the playoffs.  Since then I've realized that whole Beat the Packers thing was just more of the BS we've heard from Lovie for years.

Well also if I recall in that last game of the season against the Slackers the defense played their azz off the entire game.  Martz and his offense was the one that gift wrapped the Slackers into the playoffs.  The defense played their azz off again in the NFC championship game but once again the offense stunk.  I would still disagree about Lovie not motivated enough to beat those guys.

And Lovie also played his starters the entire game in the season finale.   So I don't see how he was BSing about his seriousness in regards to Packers/Bears.
