Knowing the Packers hung 42 points on the same Saints D that completely shut us down is what's got me feeling kinda sick...

Watch Martz ruin Cutler to the point that when we get an OC with a clue in here next year, Cutler will be a shell of his former self (see Marc Bulger), and we'll have to start over at QB as well.

Meanwhile, Tribune reports that our starting safety tandem for Sunday will be...  Steltz and Merriwether.  We are so screwed.

As long as Harris is out this is the starting safeties I'd pick. Don't care if I ever see Major Wright play again.

The only bright side is that Mathews and Woodson have been banged up.  We MAY be able to score a few points.  I am not predicting a win at all.

That rook Vererable or whatever his name is might get some time too, out of necessity.

Yeah.  Conte isn't ready for prime time, that's for sure.  Right now he's just Steltz with a little more speed.

I recall the same things being said about a young safety we drafted a few years ago after he  gave up a few TDs.

I don't know if Major Wright will make it as a safety in the NFL, but he's not the first safety to get beat by Drew Brees for a TD.

And that safety that EVERYBODY used to slam...Chris Harris.

And how is he going to get ready for prime time - by playing Madden?  As for Venable, 'd be surprised if he every gets into a game at safety in a regular defense - looks to be strictly a special teamer.

Major Wright has been on highlight reels not for his massive hits or excellent coverage skills resulting in int's....but in showing how NOT to play safety....how to be in the wrong spot, take the wrong angles, how to leave your shorts on the field while being juked out of them....all the wrong things. Merriweather was a pro bowl safety..he REALLY needs to show that this weekend! And we need Super P'nut to wake up!

It would be fantastic if Meriweather could lay out a couple of GB WRs.  Not injure, but just hurt.  Make them think twice about crossing the middle.  Just saying.

Correct. Chipping a DE and then running a short to intermediate route on a 3-step drop is not too much to ask of an NFL TE and that is well within Kellen's capabilities.

OTOH, I doubt there is a single TE in the league that can block a premier pass rushing DE 1-on-1 in a 5- or 7-step drop situation. It's just not going to happen.

I'm guessing Martz saw somthing in the first game that he figured the OL could last thru a 7 step drop.

Things got out of control before he realized he was getting Cutler killed and never made the correction.

Going away from the run made Cutler the target with 7 step drops that this OL could never hold.

At times Cutler was so far back from the pocket that you knew what was coming next.

What have we seen from Stelz?  I don't recall him ever having an opportunity to play the position more that a half as a replacement for other safeties that were injured.  I also recall in the times he has gotten in the games he has made interceptions, and who was it on our team that he knocked out on a hit - I think against Minny.  If Stelz craps his pants in this one, so be it but i don't think we have ever seen enough in game situations to know what we have.

I thought the sustitution patterns with Forte and Bell were a little iffy last week.  On the play that turned the game on a poor protection call by Martz, Bell was in.  Would he have stopped the defensive end that Davis whiffed on?  Maybe not, but it seemed like the sacks were coming more with Bell in there and I was wondering where Forte was.

Also on that oley block by Davis, after he is is beat for the sack, he turns his back to the play as Cutler is going down, clapping his hands in frustration for his missed block.  He also missed the ball on the ground.  I am sure the coaches poitedd that out, he quit on the play after he was beat and wasn't there when it was still alive.

Watch the Packers blitz and blitz and blitz and the Bears again have no answer for it.
