Thats why they didnt run the ball more. GB stopped the run cold and forced Cuttler to pass figuring they'd stomp us into the ground with interceptions or kill Cuttler with their blitzes. Well they didnt succeed with that. They were able to beat us because our defense couldnt stop Rodgers.

And because our WRs are Division II quality.

I'm looking at the schedule between now and the bye week (Panthers, Lions, Vikings, Bucs) and I'm not sure there's team on that list we can beat with our offense as bad as it is.  Maybe the Vikings...  but Jared Allen is in beast mode this season so even that one won't be easy.

We go from Ron Turner to Mike Martz and the offense now is worse than it was then.

Obviously neither of the two extremes work and we need to find someone in the middle.

Cutler played very badly yesterday but you have to feel for the guy...  he has had nothing but idiot OCs and a Division II supporting cast the whole time he's been here.

In the interests of time I will give a very abbreviated report card on yesterday's game.

- The offense gets a D-minus which is only that high because they actually scored two TDs (one more than I had expected). The running game was non-existent, the passing game was dreadful and it's getting to the point where changing OCs and offensive schemes midseason is no longer such a radical idea.

- The defense gets a C which would have been higher if they had not spotted the Packers the easiest opening drive I have ever seen.

- Special teams get a B which would have been an A if not for the terrible mistake on the punt return that cost us the TD. We are just going to have to accept the fact that the kickoff rule changes have effectively eliminated our returners as a scoring threat, and adjust our expectations of our STs accordingly.

- The coaches, for the second straight week, get an F.  The Bears were completely unprepared to play and had no answers for anything the Packers threw at them.  This staff is mailing it in against playoff caliber teams and you're seeing the results on the field.

The Bears are the Keystone Cops indeed......

Only the Bears could turn Cutler from a strong-armed dangerous QB into a stiff just like we've had for most of the modern era. They should just trade him now and get something for him- they can use some no-name punching bag back there. I'm sure Cutler would be appreciative.....

Craig Steltz- the kid cannot play. Period. But he's by no means the only culprit mascarading as a professional football player. The same can be said for a lot of the players we have as starters of backups......

The season is a marathon, not a sprint. But this team has looked worse every week. They have to improve or this team is done. And if they are done, I sincerely hope RuskAngelo are done as well. Unfortunately that is a pipe dream. At best- Angelo may get the axe (or retire) and Ruskell will take his place. New incompetent boss meet the old incompetent boss. Discouraging indeed.....

The only way I can see Cutler salvaging his career here is if the Bears front office were to completely rebuild the offense to very closely resemble what he had in his Pro Bowl year in Denver. I.e.:

- New OC
- New offensive scheme
- A big talented #1 WR  (a la Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald)
- And a radically improved OL

That's a big commitment, but if you're an organization with a franchise caliber QB and you're serious about winning a lot of games, that's what you do.

We can forget the playoffs. We cant catch GB and even were we to win some games there are better teams within our own division better qualified to be wild cards.

Just read all the posts here...didn't have time before. Everyone seems to be giving Briggs a pass. Am I the only one that saw how often he was out of position? He better stop his contract whining and step it up. A couple nice stops doesent make up for the poor play otherwise. One of the Finley TD's was directly on him. Also...is  there anyone out there that still thinks our receivers are OK?

if we can win against CAR that leaves us 2-2 in the 1st Q of the schedule.
the only teams on our schedule that look tough the rest of the way are GB and SD and possibly PHI depending on Vick.
GB, and NO are teams you have to bring your A game each week or you don't have a chance.

The rest of the teams we should be able to beat if we get our junk together even if we make a few mistakes.
DET is coming along well though, I expect we'll drop at least one game against them.

The O-line is horrendous!!! Chris Williams TWICE was supposed to pull and then block Mathews - he too slow and non-athletic - another Angelo bust.

I re-watched the called back punt return and at the very beginning you can see Graham get beat by the gunner and reach for his shoulder pad for a split second.  When Graham walked off the field he pointed to himself.

I've seen a lot worse not called - especially on our pass patterns.

The Lions annihilated the Vikings in the 2nd half yesterday with a steady 1-2 punch of Calvin Johnson and Pettigrew. They could not get anything on the ground against the Vikings D, but with those two huge pass catchers and Stafford getting solid protection (mostly), they didn't have to.

Our D is very similar to the Vikings...  solid against the run but inconsistent against the pass, meaning they can't always able stop 3rd downs when they need to.   Also, the Vikings beat themselves a lot yesterday, which we also have been doing a lot of on both sides of the ball.

Yeah Williams had a really bad game. The experiment with him at OG needs to be concluded and called a failure.  Which pretty much means he was a(nother) Angelo 1st round pick who never panned out.

This is why I was so adamant in the offseason that we needed quality additions at both OT and OG.  Just adding Carimi wasn't gonna cut it, as we saw even before he went down.

Lovie needs to tell Martz to get his a-ss out of the press box and back down on the sidelines.

This is two games in a row where Martz clearly had no clue what the hell was going on. And the plays are taking WAY too long to come in.

we need to get the play out there faster.
The O has no time to get any pre-snap reads and the D can T up because they know we don't have time to do hard counts or anything.
Martz needs to be on the sidelines. Whatever advantage he thinks he has from being up in the press box apparently isn't working.
