And this is when you hate to have someone like Campana in your lineup.  Zero chance at a game tying homer.

Cubs lose.

And other than LaHair, isn't that true of the rest of the line-up, too?

You'd like to think that anyone else in this lineup (except for maybe Barney) could get lucky, square up a ball and knock it out of the park.  Campana?  Zero chance.  It's one of those things I always hated about Theriot too.

The 7th inning looks even worse now in retrospect.  Bases loaded, no outs...and two pathetic ABs lead to 1 run, 3 outs on only 4 pitches.  Pick up another hit, and maybe they go into extra innings.

Also, like I said early...it just wasn't the Cubs' night.  The Phillies first 4 hits--which accounted for 3 of their runs--were all just hit in the right place.  Any of them could've been turned into outs if the Cubs had been positioned slightly differently.  And if any one had been an out instead, they would've gotten 1 run off Volstad instead of 4.

Yeah, Dodger fans hated that about Maury Wills, too.

I'm sure if Maury Wills was playing in 2012 and posted the same stats, lack of power would be one of many things Dodger fans would not like.  Not getting on base often enough and getting caught stealing way too often for a guy whose whole game is speed would be two other criticisms.

Or if the umpire hadn't blown the call on DeJesus's double.  Some runs probably score, which changes the game.

Saw the replay of the DeJesus call at 2nd, and the ump was right there on top of the play. How could he blow that call? it wasn't even close. And, yeah, it could have made for a different outcome (also the awful strike 3 call on DeJesus later, when he actually drew a walk...Castro and LaHair each got hits that inning....)

DeWitt starting again?  Is Barney hurt?  Showcasing him because they're getting ready to call up Cardenas and dump DeWitt?  Weird.

I would rather see Soriano at 2B than DeWitt...

Darwin Barney is on a 2-19 run with no walks.  He is 1-7 vs Bronson Arroyo while DeWitt is 9-25.

No kidding.  DeWitt was brutal at second base yesterday.  Big part of the reason why Volstad was giving up all those cheap hits.

I was in St. Louis Saturday night.  That weather got ugly.  I was picking up my wife at the airport.  He plane landed between storms, the one that blew over the beer tent that sent 165 people to the hospital and the one that sent the whole city into their basements.  Ugly.  Black as night; we were at my niece's when that hit.  The next morning I noticed that almost all of the mailboxes (the standard street boxes you see places) were open.  That takes a lot of suction.  Of course, it was St. Louis.
