I’m wondering if he is injured or never really recovered. In all the press you read he is the hardest working guy out there, it doesn’t seem like he is the type to skate by, especially if there was a chance at the playoffs.

I think Mack checked out during the early part of the year when the O was really really struggling.  Draft Dr Phil said Nagy had lost some in the locker room, and I am thinking Mack is one of the guys.  And maybe Eddie Jackson as well.  It would appear that two FS dont do well, and Jackson hasnt really done squat this year with turn overs.  So Dix goes next year and we will need a SS to fill in.  Ugh.

This is a quote from 247 sports:

In a draft littered with talented offensive linemen, it's the Iowa tackle who is selected first. Wirfs has the look of a ten-year starter at either left or right tackle.

They have him going 3rd to the Ji-ANTS. But the key to the quote is "In a draft littered with talented offensive linemen". That should help us revamp our Oline.

Your making an assumption that the current crew can pick good lineman. They picked this o line, so...….

There was something in  one of the Chi papers early in the season about Mack being injured but then nothing else and he wasn't on the injury report.

I made no such assumption, just that there seems to be good talent available, unlike recent years.

Leno's issue seems to be he loses focus.  Sunday he just starts drifting off the line of scrimmage on a screen pass like he doesn't even know what the damn play is.  Also had another offsides.  But I must say his pass blocking has improved the last few weeks.  Just had a hugely inconsistent year.

Whitehair had a huge miss that forced Trubisky to throw a crucial pick in the 4Q.  He's the best of the five.  Daniels is a decent pass blocker but not very good run blocker, in fact this has to be one of the worst run blocking teams in the NFL.

Lucas has surprised me with his pass blocking at RT.  He was beyond horrible in the PS at LT, but although awkward at time he stays with his man pretty well.  But again, not a people pusher.

Coward is the worst of the 5.  But it's his first year at guard after playing backup tackle in practice for a year. And before that he was a DE.  I know he sucks but its hard to blame him too much, but I'd absolutely go crazy if they put Bars in there these last 2 games.  RG could be the focus of one of our early picks next year.

If you watch other teams block.  Often times they will ignore one of the Bears d-lineman and focus on the other 3.  Often doubling 2 of the 3.  Then they slide off the double teams and go after the linebackers.  These are called combo blocks.  Running backs with decent vision and patience just wait for the hole to develop and usually get a few yards (like 3 or 4 compared to Bears 1).  More if Hicks is not in the lineup.    You just don't see the Bears O-line capable of doing this.  Is it talent or is it coaching?

And their current TEs, who I consider the 6th o-lineman don't provide much help either.  They miss so many blocks  And our top  3 guys that went on IR didn't do much better in that department.  TE could be the Bears first position choice in 2020.

According to Draft Dr Phil, our OL guys dont fire off the line, stay low and win with leverage.  They routinely stand straight up and try to block like that.  Are they being coached to do that?  Beats me, but how many times on the tape do you see guys just standing around not blocking anyone, or blocking a teammate?  Whatever the problem, talent or coaching or both, it needs to get fixed or we are going nowhere.

When you run for a yard on first down the D then has a big advantage knowing you're going to pass.

The offense constantly has one hand tied behind its back like this.

Then the talk is who's to blame, Trubisky or Nagy.  It's the friggin blocking that's to blame!

I believe these O-line guys were brought on to block in Fox's scheme where they fired out.  Now they are asking them to zone block.  Which is where they use finesse to turn a guy to allow the runner through.  It is supposed to keep the D from knowing if it is a run or pass.

It isn't working.  Either bad coaching or the talent doesn't match up.

Notice the few times when they went to the I formation and did fire out they were able to move the ball?

And why dont they keep doing that then, especially if it works?  Just like Nagy trying to make Mitch a pocket passer and telling him not to run for the first 10 games of the season.  Stupid.

Stubbornness abounds... Nagy and his trick plays... Heistand and his whatever coaching... There may have to be some remedial firings in the offseason....

What drives me nuts is on some of are pass patterns.  It's obvious there's a primary receiver and most of the time that's where Mitch is looking.

But often times the rest of the receivers are just running down the field stopping, turning towards the QB, and they just stand there.  The defender locks in on the guy and effectively takes the receivers out.

I understand that part of the reason for these patterns is to spread out the defense and keep them away from the primary target.  But at some point the primary target is covered and the guys have to work back to the QB.

I've seen Cohen in the middle of the field with some fatass linebacker standing behind him and wide open spaces to his left and right.  And he just stands there.
