Sorry, but,Leonard Floyd is brittle. Might be athletic, but,he didn't drink his milk. He's probably calcium deficient. Whatever he's another Kevin White. Trade him and a 1st for Khalil Mack.At least he doesn't have an injury history,at least till he signs with us. We are jinxed.

So if you don't want Floyd why would the Raiders?

With a 1st round pick to boot,I could see them gambling on his potential pass rushing to help replace Mack?

Short sighted trade.

Next year the Raiders have Leonard Floyd AND 2 first rounders.

Bears will have Mack and no first rounder...no second rounder.  Bears will  have holes at RT, OLB and possibly CB.

putting on the rose colored glasses...

Bear's OLB Leonard Floyd should play effectively in season opener

Bears outside linebacker Leonard Floyd reportedly underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his right hand.  By the reports, it appears the injury is to the index and middle finger metacarpal bones.  Surgery is actually good news, as it stabilizes the bone, allowing for earlier healing and earlier return to play.  Given Floyd’s position, he should be able to return in time for the Bears’ season opener with protection (cast or splint).  During the season, as a team doctor in the NFL, there were numerous occasions where a player broke his hand, had surgery and played the following week.  What Floyd is dealing with is more severe, as it involves two bones. But with three weeks before the season, he has the extra time.  I don't expect him to need a bulky club in the game.  A smaller partial cast or splint will be sufficient by then.  I even expect him to be effective.  Remember, grip is mostly with the fourth and fifth fingers. (Hold and practice swinging a golf club or baseball bat with one had to prove it to yourself.)  My anticipation is the Bears medical staff will only have protection/splint on the index and middle finger allowing most of his grip to be intact.  Bottom line: Floyd will be ready to play Week 1.

This guy may know what he's talking about... or he could have recently stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.

Since Floyd injured his right hand would it be better for him to now play exclusively on the right side to minimize the need for contact with his right  hand?

Damm Dallas, you ready my mind!  I was wondering if it made more sense to play one side of the line or the other while he has this injury.  His first two years, he has played almost exclusively a the left side over the right offensive tackle.  It appears from what I am reading and seeing during preseason that they are getting him ready to play the right side over the left offensive tackle.  Being it is a right hand injury, which side would he be more effective?

Reading the VJ's post above, the person writing this doesn't seem to think it will be a significant issue in 3 weeks - so it may not matter.

This is not a stress fracture.   How significant it is depends on how he heals, pain threshold, and the protective device.

Maybe if they can splint the 2 fingers together he gains  the most use of the hand.  If he has to wear a protective mitten then it will be more of a factor in his play.

I'm more concerned with the guys opposite Floyd right now:  we know what Acho can do (bring a lunch pail), but when is Lynch going to play, and who will emerge from Fitts, Irving and Edabali?

KC game could decide who makes the team.

Wasn't there a QB from KC quite a few years ago play with pins sticking out of a finger or two on his non throwing hand?

Aaaand there it is:

The Bears were hoping to get their first look at first-round pick Roquan Smith in Saturday’s preseason game.

But as with many players who miss long portions of training camps for contractual reasons, Smith may not be physically ready to.

According to Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune, the rookie linebacker left Tuesday’s practice because of tightness in his left hamstring. Coach Matt Nagy said shutting him down was just a precaution, and didn’t rule out him practicing today.

Smith missed all 16 practices of training camp, during his 29-day contract impasse with the Bears. After securing protection from some voided guarantees, he signed on Aug. 14, and has practiced since then.

Before yesterday’s practice, Smith was asked the biggest challenge to be ready for the regular season, and he replied: “Just being in football shape. You work out and do all the running you can, but it’s nothing like football shape.”

And while it’s easy to connect the potential cause and effect, Nagy wanted to remain positive.

“If you have a negative mentality with it and the glass is half empty, then you want to make sure you don’t let that affect you at all,” Nagy said. “I was just talking to him. I said, ‘Hey man, just get that thing right. We’ll monitor it. We’ll see where you’re at, and we’ll take care of you.’ ”

Until they see how he responds the next few days, it’s hard to know when he’ll be back on the field. The Bears play the Chiefs Saturday at noon.
