They aren't going to the SB but they damn well better be competitive and in the hunt for the play offs right up until the end.  Possibly even getting a wildcard.

That many draft picks and that much money to spend they better be greatly improved.

If not the GM has to go.

He can fill in the roster with one year deals that don't kill the cap down the road after making solid starter signings.

There is going to be a buzz about Chicago and free agents are going to want to sign here.

Bears lost 7 games by one score and for a 4 game stretch we’re the highest scoring offense.

Every position they improve means a few more plays made.  Even so rookies take time so we have to be patient.

Yeah 6 or 7 wins isn't going to cut it.  I expect the Bears to at the very least be in the hunt for a wild card.

That sums up my opinion pretty much. Like close to a wild card. And you better get a legitimate 3 technique. To me thats the first step to improvement. This tradedown seems to say "Wait till next year". I hate that.

Trading down was always the best option.  They went to 9 because that was who was willing to pay the king's ransom.

I am really good with the trade down.  There will be a good player available at that spot.  If our GM chooses that player, is a whole other question.  But I have no reason to believe he isn't up to the task at this point.

Getting a second and Moore is better than getting a first in two years.

This team should be a super bowl contender in another year or two with the draft haul we got.

We need 4 new starters on the DL and 3 or 4 on the OL.  Plus a LB and CB, and if Montgomery wants crazy money another RB.  Mr Poles has some work to do.

Bears need players but more than that, they need impact players. Guys who can change the course of a game. To me, it's not the number of picks, it's the quality they can find in those picks. They've had plenty of picks before and blew it more often than not. The true key here is going to be not how many but finding the gems.....all the money and all the picks in the world are worthless without being able to sort through it all to find the gems.....

It’s always been more than a one year rebuild.

There’s a lot of good edge rushers that will be there at 9.

Three technique DL are a reach at 9 but some later in the draft look interesting.

My guess is Poles goes hard after the Denver guy or Hargrove from Philly.

The top pass rushers are always over-drafted.  They go early as well as do the quality QBs and LTs.

We can't talk about playoffs yet until free agency is over and maybe after the draft too.  But the biggest factor in the success of the Bears next season is going to be the maturity of Justin Fields.  You can give him better protection and a better receivers but if he doesn't up his game its not going to matter.

For most FAs its all about the money.  But some of the JAGs will choose the Bears even with 1 year deals because they know our roster and are confident they will get playng time.

So Carter is gone in this mock:

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/2023-nfl-mock-draft-projections-003821215.html

This is good for the Bears @9  for the offense But does nothing for that rotten defense which it looks like they are going to fill holes via FA.

On one of the podcasts I listen to the idea of adding veteran FA's to Oline vs. adding young players to Dline because you do not want a young player learning on the job with Justin Fields health, that thought pattern makes a lot of sense to me.

I would use first 3 picks on Dline.  I would use the 4th pick in top 64 on TE/WR to give Justin another weapon.  I would spend the FA money on Oline (give me two starters).   I would then use my lower round picks on project offensive lineman that can be coached up over next year or two.  That would set the offense up for success next year and you get to evaluate if Justin is your guy for future.

Young defenders might give up some plays and points, but they are not going to get your QB killed.  Better to let them get immediate on job performance training than the Oline.
