Listened to Greg Gabriel's podcast and what was interesting was what he was willing to share (45:00) from his chat with Poles.  Basically they are looking for very athletic OL that fit the outside zone scheme.  In other words, historic wingspan Dawand Jones will probably not be a future OT for Bears.  He asked about an FA RT and Poles said that no he is not a fit.  My best guess is they were talking about McGlinchey...

I get that. And McGlinchey is who I suggested getting if they went the FA route for RT. I am sure they were looking in Mobile. At this point we dont know what SF does about re-upping him.

There's another option in free agency if McGlinchey isn't available.  The Falcons Kaleb McGary.  Graded out much better (PFF) and is just slightly younger - both around 28.

Poles will sign a starting RT AND might draft a starting RT too.  The round he drafts the RT depends on who he gets in free agency.

So the consensus is that Borom isn't cutting it ?

What else needs improvement along the offensive line ?

Borom struggled at RT and even when he played guard.  He's young and will be given a shot next year but I think he's a backup at best.

How about a double trade down?

1-1 to Houston for 1-2, 3-65, and 3-73

1-2 to Carolina for 1-9, 2-39, 2-61, 3-93, and a 2024 1st

I like the double trade down, First with Houston to 2, then with Indy to number 4.  At 9, we are not getting Anderson or Carter.

I’ve heard the former Ravens scout Daniel Jeremiah say good teams are built in the second round.  You’re better off with multiple second rounders than a first round pick.

So let's trade out of the first round for a second rounder then we'll have multiple second rounders in April.  Makes no sense.

Oh brother where do I start?

It's possible to trade back for multiple second rounders.  You trade back a few spots twice and you could net two second round picks.  Or you could trade back with a team that has two second rounders.

I've also heard that second rounders are the riskiest picks in the draft.  So maybe we keep trading down and collect five 3rd rounders!!!

Each draft is different.  There may be first round quality through the second round or it might end in the middle of the first round.  I think people got too hung up with the round labels.  Instead its just a ranking of players from 1 to 32 teams x  7 picks (plus comps).   Teams just target the players they like at certain numeric ranges.

I like the double trade down where the Bears get one of the top defensive lineman (the Colts #4 pick)  AND get an additional pick or picks before their late 2nd rounder from the Roquan Smith trade.

I like getting the stud d-line player and I like getting more picks because the Bears have so many needs.  Poles may have different ideas.

One of the benefits of having "excess" second round picks is that you might be able to package one or more to move back up into the first round if a specific first round talent falls for whatever reason.
