It's going to be hard not to go BPA at 9 at this point....this team badly needs talent....

If the front office ever finds it difficult to go BPA, get a new front office.

Stock dropping:

This is not how Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter envisioned his offseason. Carter went into prep for the 2023 NFL draft as the consensus top defensive tackle in the draft and could have made a statement to earn a pick in the Top Three. But instead, things have spiraled for Carter stemming from an off-field tragedy we are still seeing the effects of at his pro day.

According to Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, Carter weighed in at the Georgia pro day up nine pounds from the combine and has opted not to do any testing including the 40-yard dash. Carter will only do positional drills.

Carter’s draft status remains in limbo with just over a month to the NFL draft. Carter’s film is outstanding. His game and stature remind pundits of guys like Philadelphia’s Fletcher Cox or Kansas City’s Chris Jones and if we are just going off the film, some team will get a perennial All-Pro. But his off-field concerns are real and if they spill over into his football world, teams will rightfully be cautious of investing a Top 10 pick in him.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Poles trades down again from #9 to add more picks.

Everything i've read about Carters work ethic and character has come to pass. Leaves a team mate behind in a car accident. Now he shows up to his own pro-day over weight, doesnt work do anything other then positional drills. I would stay away from him this draft. I realize DL is a huge need. But this feels like drafting Ryan Leaf at DL.

I would say that the chances of Poles/Eberflus drafting Carter are close to zero.

Larry Mayer: What's the single most important trait that you're seeking in players you intend to add in free agency and the draft?

Ryan Poles: "Passion for the game. They've got to love football. Football's hard. As you know just from this year, you hit adversity. To keep the locker room right, to keep working at your craft, to take ownership of what you do well, what you don't do well, if you have passion for the game, there's so much that's covered in terms of progressing, developing and being the absolute best player that you can be."

Jalen Carter?  NOPE

I also read he didnt to so well at the positional drills he did do, and then claimed cramping and stopped.  Um, you knew this was coming up, after the shiitshow that was the combine, and you are overweight and out of shape?  I dont care about the need, just pass.

I wonder how low that DT from Northwestern is going to drop.  Isnt he the kid who set combine records for speed and agility at his weight?

@SethWEmerson
News: Jalen Carter has entered a deal with Athens-Clarke County solicitors, per his lawyer. Carter has pled no contest and will receive 12 months probation, pay a $1,000 fine, perform 80 hours community service and finish a driving course.

Carter will receive no jail time.

If Carter is there at 9 the Bears take him.

Yeah, he celebrated a national championship by getting involved in an impromptu car race with other Georgia players/staff.  Yeah, stupid.  But what is he 21...22?  I bet most of us have done similar or more stupid things at that age and older.  I  have.

What concerns me more was him leaving the scene of an accident.  That does not show good judgement, but again being immature in a stressful situation...

And he was out of shape for a pro-day exercise.  More bad judgement.  Once the Bears get a hold of him and he gets some mentorship and supervision he should be oK.

Bears got to evaluate on what they see on the game film.

I remember the Bears and the NFL passing on a guy in the first round that had questionable traits long ago.  Instead the Bears took the safer bet - Curtis Ennis.  You know who they passed on.

The Bears not only passed on Laremy Tunsil…they traded up to take someone else…I’m still pissed at that one.

Is there a reason why we are not going after F.A. C.J. Gardner-Johnson Safety from Philly ?

Will Anderson said the best RT he went up against was Darnell Wright if Tennessee.

Could probably trade back a bit and get him.

Let me clarify my previous post : 11 interceptions and 3 sacks the previous two years. 61 solo tackles in 2022.

They should. He skated out of trouble. Depends on the McCaskets.
