"because they were there"
Jackie is referring to US military going abroad to protect America.
Some examples would be:
world War two.  If we had not "fought" the Nazi's may have won that war.  Hitler had plans to attack the US since the late 1930's.  Germany was well in progress developing a nuke
and a bomber to deliver it to the US.
The US Navy went "There" to Cuba during the missile crisis to prevent an attack on the US.
The US "fought" in Korea and Vietnam to prevent the spread of communism and the eventual attack on the US.  I suspect you know communist Marxist principal of spreading across the world by force if necessary.

I'll bet you also buy the "Domino Theory."  The commies WON in Vietnam.  And believe it or not, more than 40 years after the fact, not only have they not invaded the U.S., but no sane person imagines they even think about doing so.

As far as your statements about Hitler, you made three and were wrong on all three.  Hitler DID predict that one day the U.S. and England would go to war with one conquering the other, but he had no plans of his own to conquer and take over the U.S.  But even if he DID have such plans, he could not even conquer and control Europe.  While he might have conquered it without U.S. involvement, he could not have maintained control over it.  Even before the U.S. entered the war, Germany was unable to cross the English channel to invade England.... and you really think he could have crossed the Atlantic to invade the U.S.?   Really?

Hitler thought that if everything went Germany's way, it would still take 100 years before it might have been ready to invade the U.S.  https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/losing-the-war-lee-sandlin-essay/Content?oid=892891

Interesting how the communist expansion stopped after we fought "there".  You've supported my point.

I never said Hitler intended or would succeed in invading the US.  I said he was building a nuke and a plane to deliver it to New York.
If he was successful I'm sure you would still be "here"but many others would not.

Do you actually think about what you are writing before you write?  We LOST in Vietnam.  We stopped nothing.  The only thing the North Vietnamese wanted to do was to reunite Vietnam, something they had been promised the could do when Vietnam was divided.  Then, in the 1950's when it came time for an election on reunification and it became apparent that the reunification side was going to win and was going to put the communists in North Vietnam in power, the U.S. blocked it.  We brought on that war, but it was NOT a war of communist expansion, and once we left you saw no effort by the former North Vietnamese to expand into nearby nations.  The 55,000 American soldiers who died there doing the bidding of this nation accomplished not a damn thing.... other than to bring about the deaths of nearly twenty times as many southeast Asians.

As to Hitler developing a bomb to drop on New York.... If Hitler had no plans to invade and try to conquer the United States, which you now seem willing to concede, there is no way he would have wanted to bomb New York and in the process assure that the United States went to war with Germany, something Hitler did not want -- he had no prior knowledge Japan was going to attack the U.S., and was very critical of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor when it happened.  Your claim that Hitler was developing a nuke to drop on New York, and implying that such a plan existed before Japan drug the U.S. into the war, is nonsense in the literal meaning of the word.

Two paragraphs to say nothing, congratulations.  And of course the characteristic insult when you are losing a debate.

A fortune was spent by the communist movement and they had little taste to further the program after Vietnam.  It's not very complicated.

Again, I was very clear on World War two.  Your second paragraph says nothing of substance.  But to satisfy your knowledge base here you go:

I did not say you were unclear about WWII.  I just said that you were entirely wrong.  Very different things.  Even if you were to read your wikipedia link you would see that according to them, there were no "cogent plans for such a long-range strategic bomber design did not begin to appear in Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring's offices until early 1942," in other words no plans until AFTER Japan forced Germany's hand with Pearl Harbor.  And the "cogent plans" from early in 1942 never even got beyond the proposal stage because "they were all eventually abandoned as too expensive."  I would provide a link to the source establishing once more that you were wrong... except that you already provided it.

I stand by my point that had we not defeated Germany, there is a real possibility we would have been attacked.
But once we entered the war and started bombing the hell out of German industry and added our ground forces to the equation Hitler could not entertain these ideas much further.  They did build 3 prototypes of the bomber but had more urgent needs in aircraft development to devote resources.  Germany's nuclear program was a big concern in 1940, when Britain determined Germany was two years ahead of the allies in bomb development.

Taking the "fight" "there" ensured that would not happen.

Obviously you can have the opinion that we would never have been attacked since 1812 had American forces never left US soil, and that may very well be true.

However Jackie's staement is not inaccurate.

I notice that once the authorities you cited to support your position instead helped to disprove it, you stopped citing any authorities.

Good call.

You're wearing thin.

If you have facts to the contrary please post the sources.

If you have facts to the contrary please post the sources.

Your entire position is based on your projection as to what would have happened, and is not an argument of what did happen, and you have made clear that neither reason not facts will alter your belief in the correctness or your conclusion (such as the conclusion that the godless commies were all acting as one monolithic entity controlled by the grave from selected passages written by Marx 100 years earlier).  Sources will do nothing to alter your conclusions.

 Jes,

Wow ! The chicagoreader is still around ??

My friend was the night shift supervisor of that place back in the day.

It was then located about two buildings down on the south east corner of Addison & Ashland, on Ashland.

When those printing presses are running full speed the floor shakes.

I went in there one night to hang out with him and after awhile I was so sick,

I went upstairs to the bathroom and had serious flu like symptoms.

Dizzy ... weak ... diarrhea ... my head leaning on the toilet stall unable to move.

I finally got it together and went out on the street and sat down on the curb.

Feeling instantly better with polluted Chicago fresh air.

My bro came out and asked me was I ok and I said yes I am now.

So we went back inside and then I smelled it ... the printing ink and chemicals made me sick !

I told him I'm not going back inside.

BTW ... you have a unique reconstruction of history until it suits your viewpoint.

You're either pregnant or you're not ... or you've been invaded or you're not.

There is no in between.  :D
