I get into this same argument with my daughter all the time.

Next Sunday is not this Sunday.  It is Next Sunday a week from this Sunday.  She argues that Next Sunday means the next Sunday.  NO IT DOESN"T!!!  NEXT SUNDAY IS THE SUNDAY FOLLOWING THIS SUNDAY DAMNIT!

I googled it:

For example, on Monday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 13, “next Tuesday” means October 19. Whereas on Monday, October 18, “next Tuesday” means October 26. “This Tuesday” refers to the Tuesday that comes this week, which on Wednesday would refer to yesterday, and on Monday refers to tomorrow.

Dallas - Exactly.  You have this whateverday and next whateverday one week later.  This sunday is the 18th and Next Sunday is the 25th.

Now time to blow the minds of those confused.

This Sunday we play the Vikings.  Next Thursday we play the Lions.  It is Next Thursday because "this" Thursday has already passed.  "Next" and "This" is a reference to a calendar week.  This Thursday the Packers Lost and has passed.  This Sunday is This weekend.  Next Thursday is Thanksgiving and Next Sunday the Bears are off.

In the Tribune today they went over McCarthy's multiple blunders in the Seattle game. Decisions that could have gone either - but all backfired on him. Not challenging the last Seattle TD....not going for it on 4th down with a little over 2 minutes left and 3 timeouts.
